Purpose of the Position

The Senior Director of Academic Operations will play a pivotal role in the strategic planning and execution of academic initiatives for UMA’s online campus. The Senior Director will oversee the Student Affairs team, the Academic Services team, and will be responsible to ensure academic and program leaders have the data and support needed to make decisions for program improvement, efficient use of resources, and for achieving established goals.

UMA is a nonprofit healthcare educational institution with a national presence. Headquartered in Tampa, Florida and founded in 1994, UMA offers content-rich, interactive online programs as well as hands-on training at our Clearwater, Florida campus.

  • Anticipated starting salary of $XX,000; pay rate negotiable based on experience and qualifications.

Key Responsibilities

Functional

  • Lead online education teams and services that are operational in nature to effectively support the delivery of online programs and overall accountability.
  • Responsible for efficient and effective operation of Student Affairs, Academic Services, Program support (Program Administrators).
  • Collaborate with Deans, Program Leaders, and other education team leaders to ensure effective support from UMA shared services teams such as Marketing, IT, and Business Intelligence for academic initiatives.
  • Coordinate effectively with operations leaders from other departments including Learner Services, Career Services, and others as appropriate.
  • Communicate effectively through established channels both within and across departments to support alignment.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement and efficient use of resources in academic team operational tasks as we innovate our academic service delivery.
  • Lead initiatives that support automation of manual tasks and easy access to data for decision-making.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Online Education department and other teams responsible for project management, implementation, UAT, systems support to represent the academic priorities and share critical updates.
  • Participate in the strategic planning for the Online Education team, recommending opportunities for innovation and improvement.


Technical

  • Navigates data and reports effectively to assess trends
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel for communication and organizing information
  • Communicates effectively utilizing Microsoft Teams or similar communication tools for meetings and chat communications.
  • Determine efficiency of online support team using the UMA telephony systems
  • Coordinates with internal IT and BI teams to communicate and request Education team needs


Support Institutional Initiatives

  • Keeps current on institutional goals, objectives, and progress
  • Engages in institutional sponsored activities and initiatives as appropriate
  • Leads with courage in support of change initiatives that impact organization
  • Manages and assists in coordinating efforts between departments within UMA


Compliance

  • Demonstrates knowledge of, and carefully follows all applicable federal and state compliance requirements and regulations including those prescribed by the Department of Education, accrediting agencies, CIE, and internal UMA policies and procedures.
  • Effectively communicates compliance requirements to students and other staff as appropriate and quickly escalates any compliance concerns to the Compliance department.


Work Experience, Skills & Abilities

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years’ experience in an academic role with operational responsibilities or in an operational role with academic responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated attention to Detail, Analyzing and presenting data, Leadership and Management skills, completing projects and tasks. Manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Ability to professionally communicate fluently in verbal and written English.
  • Supportive of a diverse and inclusive work environment.
  • Computer literacy/basic computer skills to effectively navigate and utilize the technology required for the role.
  • Able to support a diverse and inclusive work environment


Preferred Requirements

  • MBA or Masters’ Degree
  • 7 or more years of experience in an academic role with operational responsibilities or in an operational role with academic responsibilities.
  • Project Management certification or experience with project management.


Working Environment

  • This is a remote position
  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed


Physical Demands

  • Requires long periods of sitting at a desk working on a computer
  • Requires occasional bending, stooping and squatting
  • Requires occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs.
