Senior Design Engineer

JOB OVERVIEW

This position reports to the Lead Design Engineer and will work from our office in Irvine, CA.

As the Sr. Design Engineer, you'll use your exceptional skills and knowledge of products and processes to bring innovative and complex engineered solutions to completion. Your focus will be to support the Industrial Design and Development Engineering departments utilizing your engineering knowledge to assess and solve complex engineering problems.

Implement tools such as 3D CAD systems to generate surface and solid models, 3D assemblies, 2D drawings and layouts into a proper workflow that can supplement the objectives for Industrial Design and Development Engineering departments.

Be responsible for continuously improving process and workflow tasks to increase efficiencies between modifying and maintaining factory CAD data into the working file CAD data that can be compiled and communicated between Industrial Design and Development Engineering departments as needed.

Build and follow the foundation of the product readiness process that will result in functional, high quality, on-time, and cost-effective Bike, Snow and Powersports products that are an accurate reflection of Revelyst’s position as an industry leader.

Essential duties required to carry out this job:

Utilize computer aided design/drafting software (CATIA/SolidWorks experience preferred) to develop and support the Industrial Design and Development Engineering departments to produce the most innovative and market leading Bike, Snow, and Powersports products.

  • knowledge of various manufacturing principles, engineering practices, mathematics, materials, and physical sciences to complete detailed designs and drawings.
  • knowledge in areas of current and advancing manufacturing principles such as injection molding, vacuum forming, casting, machining, and other relative manufacturing methods.
  • to assess initial engineering design with early prototyping, testing, and early manufacturing validation as needed.
  • and revise production drawings (component part, layout, and assembly drawings) that include detailed multi-view layouts with all necessary dimensions.
  • for modeling prototype parts utilizing various 3D printers and assisting engineers with prototype construction and sample builds.

Working with Industrial Design and the vendor to create and evaluate functional prototypes to verify design intent.

Visit vendor’s manufacturing facilities to sample and commercialize intended product design. Study vendor’s development techniques, production processes and technological capabilities to enhance professional knowledge, further vendor relationship and assist in the innovation of product design/development.

Oversee the execution of the fully built samples (functionality, precision, overall performance of the system).

Communicate internally and with international factories and vendors; both verbally and in writing critical and pertinent information that is needed to accomplish the design engineering tasks based on defined boundary conditions.

Required travel to factories, to oversee design engineering objectives that support the development engineering department for one or more categories.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or 4 or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred
  • 3-5 years experience in utilizing parametric modeling tools (CATIA/SolidWorks/Pro-E/Autodesk Fusion 360/NX)
  • Proficiency in mechanical systems and sub-assemblies related to sport products preferably
  • Able to solve complex engineering problems related to mechanism integration within determined boundary conditions
  • Highly detail oriented
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to understand the responsibilities between new product development and R&D objectives/tasks
  • Organized with the ability to setup and conduct technical review meetings between departments of varying disciplines and expertise
  • Fluid task management skillset
  • Microsoft Office suite experience

  • Previous design engineering experience in helmets or molded plastic protective sport products
  • Understanding of impact/cyclic load lab testing equipment and testing procedures associated with sport products
  • Knowledge of certifications of Bike, Snow, and Powersports protective equipment
