What’s the role?

As a Senior Data Scientist in Risk & Fraud, you will be instrumental in creating a data-driven strategy to prevent, detect, and reduce risk on Etsy. This role will collaborate with partners across our product and operational teams to identify and implement opportunities to reduce Etsy’s exposure to risk while maintaining a positive experience for our buyers and sellers. This role will be responsible for developing metrics that define success, measuring success via experimentation and offline analyses, and generating insights that bring clarity to new opportunities to reach our goals.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Manager, Trust & Safety Analytics. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy.

This role requires your presence in Etsy’s Brooklyn Office once or twice per week depending on your proximity to the office. What does the day-to-day look like?

• Work closely and collaboratively with leaders in Risk & Fraud product, engineering, and operations to help shape our strategy and vision.
• Conduct analysis on buyers’ and sellers’ behavior, helping us better understand how to design experiences that keep Etsy safe from risk while maintaining a positive experience for our customers.
• Design and analyze experiments, help teams set great hypotheses, and deliver robust analysis of experiment results
• Improve or automate internal analytics processes to drive efficiency

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

• 4+ years experience as a data scientist or data analyst during which you extracted insights from large datasets. Bonus points for experience in Risk & Fraud, particularly in an e-commerce setting.
• Mastery of SQL, proficiency in R/Python, and experience in Looker, Spark, or other data visualization software.
• Experience in A/B experimentation and statistical analysis of experimental data
• An ability to translate and decompose business problems into quantifiable metrics
• An ability to communicate insights to a variety of technical and non-technical stakeholders
