RELIEF WORKER (PART-TIME, MULTIPLE VACANCIES)

Position Information

The Arlington County Juvenile and Domestic Relations (JDR) District Court Services Unit is hiring Relief Workers (Part-Time) to work with full-time staff to provide direct services at the Andrew B. Ferrari Argus House.

The Andrew B. Ferrari Argus House is a 12-bed residential facility for boys aged 12-20. Relief Workers are responsible for the safety and supervision of the residents and the operation of the group home during scheduled shifts. They will implement the daily program activities according to the group home schedule, including leading structured activities, conducting peer group meetings, administering medications, supervising meals, and overseeing chores. Relief Workers evaluate and report on resident behaviors and interactions verbally and in writing. Work hours occur during the overnight, weekdays, evenings, weekends, and County holidays.

The ideal candidate will have an understanding of the characteristics of this population and have experience maintaining a friendly rapport with clients while serving as a caring authority figure. Prompt completion of paperwork is essential. All programs serve high-needs individuals, many of whom are immigrant adolescents and adults. Relief Workers maintain regular contact with families, schools, community stake holders and other service providers.

Selection Criteria
Minimum

  • High school diploma/equivalent;
  • Some experience providing direct human services, counseling, and/or experience in the criminal justice field; and
  • Must possess a valid Driver License; and
  • Must obtain and maintain certifications in CPR, First Aid, Handle with Care, Medication Administration (MAT), and ServSafe food service.

Substitution: College coursework in a human service-related field may substitute experience on a year for year basis.

Desirable: Preference may be given to candidates with degree in a related Human Services field and possession of one or more of the following:

  • Working in a multilingual and multicultural environment;
  • Understanding the Court system;
  • Working with various community resources;
  • Bachelor's Degree in a directly related Human Services field; and/or
  • Bilingual ability in English & Spanish (oral and written).

Special Requirements
Argus House employees must possess, or obtain by the time of appointment, a valid driver license. They must authorize Arlington County to obtain or provide a copy of their official driving record. Any offer of employment may be contingent upon a favorable review of driving record.

A pre-hire background check will be made on all candidates who are selected for employment. It may include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history. You may be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information.

Additional Information
Work Hours: 8-24 hours per week on an as-needed basis. Positions may require weekday, evening, weekend, and overnight hours. The final schedule will be determined by program supervisor when employee is hired. Overnight and holiday work is required.

The official job title is Human Services Aide V.

These are temporary occasional positions. Employee is eligible for sick leave.
