R&D Circuit Design Engineer

PURPOSE & RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will participate directly in new product development projects, application and production engineering of existing products, and the processes that bring them to fruition. An R&D Engineer works with technical managers and other electrical, software and mechanical engineers, taking complete ownership of, and responsibility for well-defined tasks. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing their work product for design review, and for contributing to design review of other’s work. Agile development methods are used daily by the R&D Engineer to guide progress and provide focus. Planning and process monitoring throughout the product development cycle are integral to the position’s responsibilities, as are specification, design, coding, prototyping, testing and QA/QC of product.

Embedded real-time systems, signal conditioning and acquisition hardware, microcontroller and digital signal processor circuit design, programmable logic design, communications, embedded databases, PCB design and layout, power electronics, electromechanical systems, and human interfaces are all aspects of LayerZero’s core competency in engineering. The successful candidate will be able to contribute to this broad range of engineering disciplines.

Requirements

PRIMARY DUTIES:

This Position Embodies The Following Primary Duties

  • Under the direction of senior Engineers, create product platforms consisting of analog and digital circuits, solid state power electronics, electromechanical and electrochemical systems, embedded real-time software, manufacturable product parts, and user interface software.
  • Design circuits to implement significant new features and bug fixes to existing product platforms.
  • Complete layout of complex, multi-layer (> 12 layer) PCBs.
  • Select components and compile bills of material for designs.
  • Create release packages of documents to enter new designs into production.
  • Design and code software for some embedded systems and digital signal processors.
  • Participate in design reviews both in person and via on-line tools.
  • Manage product lifecycle trajectory.
  • Provide product technical support.

Experience, Skills & Education

  • Master of Science or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering – Required.
  • Success with analog and digital circuit design -- Required.
  • Experience with real time embedded circuits and systems -- Required.
  • Knowledge of FPGA logic design and SoC implementation.
  • Familiarity with digital signal processing theory and components.
  • Successful design of multi-layer PCBs.
  • Hands-on experience building, soldering and testing SMT PCBs.
  • Course work or working knowledge using embedded Linux or similar RTOS.
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP networking.
  • Ability to follow coding rules and standards.
  • Two to ten years of success designing a wide variety of electronic circuits.
