IT Technician (6540)

Job Summary

Under general direction from the IT manager provides help desk support to network users as well as support, maintain, and evaluate computer networking and telecommunication systems. Perform other related duties as assigned.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Establishes and maintains user accounts, profiles, file sharing, access privileges and security for:
    • Domain accounts
    • E-mail/Internet/ Systems Support Establishes and maintains user e-mail accounts.
      • Provides e-mail training and software support.
      • Researches and troubleshoots e-mail problems by reviewing mail logs, records, and network configurations.
    • Phones and voice mail accounts.
    • User role specific access and software setup.
  • Provide network user support.
    • Train network users in computer system use
    • Communicate with network users about how to solve existing system problems.
    • Install and configure software, peripheral devices
    • Provides solutions to customer identified problems.
      • Help desk support.
      • Research, analyze, monitor, troubleshoot and resolve workstation, peripheral device or data network problems.
      • Other issues as they arise.
    • Gather data pertaining to customer needs, and use the information to identify, predict, interpret, and evaluate system and network requirements.
  • Performs scheduled network tasks.
    • Ensures success of daily server backups.
    • Manages anti-virus server.
      • Updating of anti-virus definition files.
      • Ensure client compliance with anti-virus run schedule.
    • Monitor the performance of computer servers, systems and networks.
    • Monitors user usage to ensure security of data and access privileges.
    • Perform routine network startup and shutdown procedures, and maintain control records.
    • Maintain logs related to network functions, as well as maintenance and repair records.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot the network logs and tracks the nature and resolution of problems.
  • Assist in maintaining and supporting physical and virtual servers, appliances, Storage Area Network (SAN), firewalls, routers and switches.
  • Assist in research and recommends network and server hardware and software.
  • Recommend changes to improve systems and network configurations, and determine hardware or software requirements related to such changes.
  • Assists in designing, installing, configuring, and maintaining system hardware and software.
  • Assist in development, maintenance and implementation of network support, and archiving procedures.
  • Keep current regarding new hardware/software products for system enhancements.
  • Assists and provides support to the IT manager as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Ability to handle highly confidential information/material.
  • Ability to communicate orally and written in a professional manner.
  • Knowledge of networking systems and applications.
  • Prior experience supporting, implementing, and/or administering networks such as Microsoft Windows Active Directory.
  • Ability to juggle multiple tasks and prioritize work load
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Works well both alone or in a team.
  • Strong analytical skills.

EDUCATION

Minimum Education: Equivalent work experience.

Preferred Education: Associates Degree in an information technology related field.

Experience

1 year networking experience preferred

CERTIFICATE/LICENSE

Preferred Certifications: Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE); Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
