Information Technology Systems Administrator

Under limited supervision, serves as a administrator and technical support for server computing. Assist with plans, installs and maintains the agency server computing infrastructure hardware and software in both physical and virtual environments to ensure quality services and to maintain compliance with agency information security policies and procedures. Serve as the a support contact for key enterprise application infrastructure and middleware.

  • Assists the technical lead to support server computing for daily operations of the agency's Data Center. Provide support for MS Windows Servers in physical and virtual environments, web-related technologies and server-related infrastructure to provide quality services to internal and external customers. Focus will be placed on supporting Public Health systems and infrastructure environments.
  • Provide technical expertise for Tier -2, Tier -3 level issue resolution and project implementations. Assists with monitoring performance and stability of the agency servers, data storage, backup and disaster recovery. Manages, maintains, reports and audits hosted roles and services including but not limited to: Web, File, Print, Application Middleware, MS Hyper-V, MS Active Directory and Citrix.
  • Actively represent the agency on internal and external teams as needed and assigned. Consult with management, staff and end users of technology for preparation of needs assessments, solutions, strategies and standards.
  • Assist with other duties as requested by IT management.

Minimum And Additional Requirements

A bachelor's degree in information technology systems, computer science, or a related field and experience in information technology systems or a related area. Relevant experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.

Work experience in the modification and maintenance of system programs, design and development of system software, and debugging of system software.

Preferred Qualifications

System Administrator experience. Excellent troubleshooting skills. Ability to analyze and diagnose application/operating system connectivity/issues.

This position is part of the South Carolina Department of Environmental Control’s Office of Information Technology . The work performed supports DHEC’s mission to improve the quality of life for all South Carolinians by protecting and promoting the health of the public and the environment. Effective July 1, 2024, this position will transfer to the South Carolina Department of Public Health created by Senate Bill 399 which provides for the creation of the Department of Public Health to assume the public health-related functions of DHEC.
