Global Head of Tax

RSP Group is working closely with a leading construction company, with revenues in excess of $10bn. My client has a global presence, dedicated to delivering innovative and sustainable solutions in the construction industry. As they continue to grow, they are seeking a highly experienced Global Corporate Tax Director/Head of Tax to lead the tax strategy and compliance efforts. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to the financial success of a dynamic team and organization.


This position can be based in most locations within the US.


ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The Global Corporate Tax Director will be responsible for working with our current Tax Lead and team and overseeing and managing the tax function and all internal and external relationships relating to tax. In addition, this individual will lead the development and implementation of domestic and global tax planning strategies, tax compliance, tax audits, financial reporting for tax, and special projects. This position reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer.


EXPERIENCE

  • 15+ years of both corporate and public accounting experience, CPA or JD preferred.
  • Broad technical knowledge of US and international tax law and regulations, such as Base Erosion and Anti-abuse Tax (BEAT), Global Intangible Low-taxed Income (GILTI), Subpart F, Transition Tax, Foreign Tax Credits, VAT, etc.
  • Extensive background and technical understanding of corporate tax, as well as tax accounting and reporting requirements relating to International, business combinations (i.e. M&A transactions) and other internal reorganizations.
  • Solid GAAP Financial Accounting / ASC 740 knowledge
  • Experience in working with tax auditors at domestic (federal and state) and foreign level to help drive an efficient and timely resolution to tax audits.
  • Highly skilled in leadership and team management.
  • Excellent collaboration, verbal, and written communication skills, including the ability to clearly and effectively present information and technical issues to executive management in non-technical terms.
  • Maintains high performance standards and has a passion for excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Knowledge of tax software use and implementation.


EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; an advanced degree/license (e.g., MBA, CPA, MST) is highly desirable.
  • Juris Doctor required.


Responsibilities include:

Essential responsibilities will include but will not be limited to the following:


Team Leadership:

  • Able to lead in a shared leadership environment achieving positive results more through a culture of positive influence over command and control.
  • Organize a team to ensure that it can manage all tax deliverables efficiently and effectively.
  • Support the continued growth of the team by providing ongoing performance feedback, creating opportunities, and developing goals for each member.
  • Ensure the tax function is organized to scale for growth and complexity for the enterprise, including identifying and implementing process improvements, and effectively using data and technology.


Collaboration

  • Act as a liaison between business, legal, finance and other departments to assist with identifying and resolving issues associated with transactions as well as individual projects.
  • Collaborate with the accounting team to ensure accurate financial reporting of tax-related matters.
  • Manage relationships with tax advisers, law firms and other third-party advisers on tax matters.


Tax Strategy and Planning:

  • Provide federal, state and international income tax planning and research with respect to the company’s global business operations and objectives.
  • Provide strategic advice on the tax implications of business decisions, including mergers, acquisitions, and divestitures.
  • Conduct thorough research on complex tax issues and provide recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Assist in determining the best position that can be taken on projects state by state where sales and/or use tax can be reduced or eliminated.


Compliance Management:

  • Oversee the development and maintenance, with the internal Tax team, of global tax processes ensuring compliance and appropriate internal controls.
  • Provide input and support in designing processes and controls to ensure compliance of payroll tax matters, including expat related matters.
  • Monitor changes in tax laws and regulations to ensure ongoing compliance.
  • Strategically navigate and resolve tax controversies in collaboration with legal and external advisors.


Tax Provision and Reporting:

  • Oversee the accurate preparation of the Company’s Federal/Foreign income provision (both current and deferred) and ensure all related returns are filed within deadlines.
  • Oversee the preparation of quarterly and annual tax provisions and financial statement disclosures.
  • Oversee all US income tax compliance and reporting requirements including GILTI, Subpart F and the preparation of international forms, information statements and disclosures in the federal tax return and the principle contact for government tax audits.
  • Oversee US and Global tax payments and ensure appropriate controls are in place to review tax accounts to appropriately reflect the Company’s tax position and status.
  • Review and provide input on language contained in new business initiative documents to ensure information reporting requirements are stated correctly.
  • Manage and direct out-sourced preparation of U.S and foreign income, informational and indirect tax filings.
  • Be the primary point of contact with the external auditors to ensure a timely, complete and accurate quarterly review and year-end audit process.


Tax Research and Analysis:

  • Lead the tax review of proposed business combinations/reorganizations to properly advise management of tax consequences.
  • Manage multiple service providers and budgets to conduct and execute complex studies and analysis for purposes of minimizing tax exposure. Drive tax planning considerations including compliance requirements with state, federal and international jurisdictions.
  • Providing business analysis, including scenario modeling of NOL and tax credit along with the forecasted cash impact.
  • Build relationships throughout the business to monitor new services/products/transactions being considered and ensure that the business understands how current information reporting & withholding rules should be applied.


Transfer Pricing:

Assess existing global intercompany relationships to determine transfer pricing requirements and proper structure, including documentation of these arrangements and supporting periodic studies.
