Position Summary:

The Editor will play a critical role within a team dedicated to producing high-quality, public-facing materials that present complex data and analysis on global and US sexual and reproductive health and rights. This role involves editing a diverse range of products, including research reports, policy analyses, fact sheets, presentation materials, social media content, infographics, staff communications and fundraising materials. The ideal candidate will be comfortable engaging substantively with text, tables and figures containing statistical data; their expert editing skills and understanding of our subject matter will help them ensure the accuracy and effectiveness of content and assist authors in developing strong, cohesive arguments.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform substantive editing to refine and clarify text.
  • Collaborate with authors and graphic designers to ensure that visuals are accurate, engaging and appropriate for target audiences.
  • Help project teams conceptualize upcoming products by advising them on content type, tone and structure, ensuring planned products align with audience needs, project objectives and internal guidance.
  • Employ project management principles to help guide content through editing, review, design, translation and publication, maintaining clear communication about processes, project status and deadlines.
  • Write content, as needed.
  • Contribute to the creation and dissemination of internal process documentation and guidelines.
  • Undertake additional related tasks and projects, as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of four years of experience in editing academic, scientific or professional communications materials.
  • Exceptional writing, editing and proofreading skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong understanding of social science research methods and statistics, sufficient to ensure the accuracy of text and graphics and translate complex concepts for nonexpert audiences.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel; familiarity with Microsoft 365, Asana (or similar project management tools), Zotero and Adobe Suite. Openness to learning new software as required.
  • Project management experience with excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills. Capable of managing multiple time-sensitive priorities.
  • Background knowledge in sexual and reproductive health and rights and experience in UX/UI design and social media content creation preferred.
  • Demonstrated cultural competency and a commitment to fostering an inclusive workplace environment.
  • Fluency in French or Spanish is highly beneficial.

Salary and Benefits:

Starting salary at $80,886 to $128,949 commensurate with experience. Excellent benefits that include medical, dental, vision and life insurance; vacation, personal and sick time, paid parental leave; tuition reimbursement; commuting subsidy; and 401(k) with employer match. The range for this position is specific to New York and DC, however base pay may vary depending on a wide range of factors, including, but not limited to, experience, skill sets, and training.
