Team Overview

The Barings Economic and Thematic Research team provides investment recommendations by

focusing on the intersection between economics and financial markets across a wide class of assets including equities, fixed income/credit, currencies, and commodities. We generate fundamental research aimed at identifying short-term market drivers and long-term investment-relevant themes. Our clients include internal investment teams and, external clients such as mutual funds, pension funds, and major non-financial corporations, among others.

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced U.S. economist to join the BETR team. Working closely with the Head of Macroeconomic Research and other members of the team, the economist will:

• Analyses and interpret high-frequency U.S. economic data releases
• Follow macro developments to form a holistic, clear and reasoned outlook for the U.S. economy
• Work with the economists on the team on economic research projects, both short-term focused and long-term/thematic
• Write occasional research pieces of their own
• Maintain and expand the team's forecasting models
• Work with colleagues in sales and trading as well as external clients to answer questions and explain the team's views and research results
  
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Master degree, preferably in Economics
• Strong analytical skills and understanding of statistical analysis, ideally with coursework in econometrics
• Excellent written and verbal communication
• Solid computer programming skills (Excel, Stata and/or Python)
• At least 4 years of relevant work experience
• Strong interest in macroeconomics
• Meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational skills
• Ability to work both autonomously and in a team setting

Base Salary: $145,000+
