Director - Financial Reporting and Corporate Accounting

Support Center - Irving

The Director of Financial Reporting and Corporate Accounting will be responsible for directing all Michaels external and internal financial reporting processes, ensuring compliance with SEC and US GAAP rules, and filing financial statements for equity holders, lenders, and internal parties. This position is also involved in the monthly close process and will be the accounting technical expert for Michaels.

Major Activities

• Direct the timely and accurate preparation of Quarterly and Annual Reports.
• Oversee monthly financial statement analyses and the creation and distribution of internal financial reports.
• Perform technical accounting research and analysis and communicate new accounting topics to upper management.
• Manage the relationship with outside auditors and maintain consistent and transparent communication.
• Managing and completing monthly close and reporting activities.
• Participate in cross-functional strategic initiatives to ensure appropriate accounting and processes are in place.
• Collaborate with internal audit to establish effective financial controls.
• Analyzing variances, root causes, and underlying trends in order to improve business decisions and improve forecasting.
• Proactively coach team to create a collaborative and open work environment that encourages innovative thinking and problem solving.
• Evaluating changes in the business or systems environment that may have an impact on financial reporting and corporate accounting.
• Oversee Essbase reporting hierarchies and ensure consistency between the Essbase and Oracle systems.
  
  

Minimum Education

• Bachelors or Masters Degree in Accounting
  
  

Minimum Special Certifications Or Technical Skills

• CPA required
  
  

Minimum Type Of Experience The Job Requires

• Minimum of 8-10 years of experience, including technical GAAP accounting experience
• Public accounting experience strongly preferred
• Retail experience preferred
• Minimum 5 years of SEC reporting experience
• Proficient in Excel
• Strong knowledge of financial statements, internal controls, SOX, US GAAP.
• Essbase experience, Oracle experience preferred
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
