Design/Manufacturing Engineer

Snap-on Willoughby, OH

Norbar Torque Tools, Inc., a Cleveland Ohio-based, wholly owned division of Snap-on, is looking for a full-time Design/Manufacturing Engineer, to work from our Willoughby OH office. The candidate should be experienced with drafting, design, and manufacturing processes, working primarily with fabricated steel products and mechanical assemblies.

Responsibilities

Excellent organizational skills and communication skills and computer skills are required. The successful candidate will work closely with our internal service / assembly department, communicate clearly with our sales team and distribution network, and be capable of visualizing, designing, and assembling solutions to various applications. Experience with operating and maintaining a manufacturing system. Technical product support and interaction with customers may be required. Core duties of this role are as follows:

  • Support assembly operations and provide technical support on products.
  • Write work instructions.
  • Maintain product designs and make changes to assist with product performance, customer needs, and manufacturing requirements.
  • Draft product manuals.
  • Design and manufacturing of custom products.
  • Generate work orders, purchase orders, material transfers.
  • Inspect incoming parts to print.
  • Assist with warehousing and inventory setup.
  • Assemble low volume products and perform functionality test.
  • Conduct product testing and documentation.
  • Manage 3 rd party approvals and ratings (UL).
  • Specify, support, and oversee install of new shop equipment.
  • Create documentation to support sales team
  • Perform duties in line with engineering and manufacturing support as required.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Skills

The successful candidate should have a strong and demonstrated background in mechanical design or engineering, and a BSME is helpful but not necessarily required. Good communication and problem solving skills are a must-have. Beyond working and communicating well with the engineering and sales team, frequent direct contact with customers, distributors, and the management team should be expected. This is a very hands on position and the candidate must enjoy working in the shop as well as the office.

Working well with others is a must-have skill. A positive attitude and a desire to be part of a team are critical to this role.

Required Skills And Experience

  • CAD experience required (2+ years) in both design and drafting. (SOLIDWORKS and NX experience a strong positive)
  • Design experience of machined components. (2+ years)
  • Working experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Understanding of machining practices required (must understand milling and turning processes using CNC equipment)
  • Strong competency with mechanical systems.
  • Must have the ability to use hand tools and power tools competently and safely.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods of time and work in a shop environment
  • Must be capable of lifting 50 lbs.
  • Must have ability to work without sponsorship

Useful Skills And Or Working Knowledge

  • Experience with gear design / drive train components
  • Knowledge of welding processes and practices.
  • Instrument calibration.
  • CAM software.
  • FEA experience.
  • Costing and Quoting experience.
  • Understanding of low voltage systems and controls.
  • Experience with pneumatic and hydraulic systems is highly valuable.
  • Experience with design and testing of power tools highly valuable
