Description
As the Deputy Project Manager of Communications , you will have an opportunity to address the most pressing health and wellness needs in Native American communities. You will be responsible for overseeing the Bureau of Indian Education (BIE) Behavioral Health and Wellness Program (BHWP) website, webinars, events, and the submission of work products. Additionally, you will play a crucial role in managing the program's staff members, maintaining smooth operations, and ensuring the efficient execution of project tasks. As part of our ambitious and passionate team, you will create a lasting impact on the mental health and wellness of Native American students.
The BIE BHWP provides culturally relevant, evidence-based, and trauma-informed behavioral health and wellness services for school staff, students, and families at all Bureau-funded institutions, including Bureau-operated schools, Tribally Controlled Schools, post-secondary institutions, and Tribal colleges and universities.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Assist the Project Manager in developing project plans, timelines, and deliverables for BHWP.
- Establish and maintain effective relationships with program stakeholders, including partners, sponsors, and participants.
- Foster a collaborative and supportive work environment, promoting teamwork and professional development.
- Supervise and provide guidance to program staff members, including assigning tasks and monitoring performance.
- Coordinate and communicate project updates, progress, and milestones to the project team and stakeholders.
- Supervise projects to guarantee all content is publication-ready.
- Identify and mitigate potential project risks and issues, proposing effective solutions.
- Collaborate with web developers and content creators to maintain and enhance the program's online presence.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to ensure successful event planning and execution.
- Manage post-event evaluation and feedback processes, implementing improvements based on insights.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Experience in project management, preferably in the field of behavioral health and wellness.
- Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and guide employees.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency in website management, content management systems, and webinar platforms.
- Knowledge of event planning and coordination, including logistics, registration, and post-event evaluation.
- Proficiency in project management software and tools.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a proactive and solution-oriented approach.
- Availability to travel occasionally for program-related events.
- Familiarity with behavioral health and wellness concepts and programs preferred.
- Must be able to favorably complete a background investigation.
- Master’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations or relevant field and at least 2 years of management experience; or bachelor’s degree with 5 years of related experience.
- Previous work in Native American and Alaska Native communities highly desired.
