Cybersecurity Advisor

Job Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate the organization's security posture and recommend improvements to mitigate risks
  • Develop and implement comprehensive cybersecurity policies and procedures
  • Conduct vulnerability assessments and penetration testing to identify security weaknesses
  • Collaborate with IT teams to ensure appropriate security controls are integrated into technology environments
  • Provide advice on the latest cyber threats and security best practices
  • Lead incident response activities and investigate security breaches
  • Develop and deliver cybersecurity awareness training for employees across the organization
  • Assist with the management of security technologies such as firewalls, anti-virus software, and intrusion detection systems
  • Monitor security access and control systems to prevent unauthorized access, modifications, or destruction
  • Work with external stakeholders, including vendors, partners, and regulators, to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations
  • Review and approve the installation of new software and hardware from a security perspective
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure security practices are compliant with internal policies and external requirements
  • Participate in the development and testing of business continuity and disaster recovery plans with a focus on cybersecurity
  • Provide guidance on data protection, privacy, and IT risk management
  • Act as a liaison between the cybersecurity team and other departments to facilitate effective communication and collaborative problem-solving
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related field
  • Master's degree a plus
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in cybersecurity roles such as security analyst, security engineer, or similar
  • Industry-recognized certifications such as CISSP, CISM, CEH, or CompTIA Security+
  • Strong understanding of various cybersecurity frameworks (NIST, ISO 27001, etc.)
  • Knowledge of current cybersecurity threats, attack techniques, and landscape
  • Experience with security technologies such as firewalls, IDS/IPS, SIEM, and endpoint protection
  • Ability to conduct risk assessments and security audits
  • Familiarity with incident response procedures and forensics
  • Understanding of network architecture and data communication protocols
  • Experience developing and implementing cybersecurity policies and procedures
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
  • Detail-oriented with a proactive approach to threat detection and mitigation
  • Experience providing cybersecurity within an academic organization strongly preferred
  • Track record of providing exemplary customer service
  • U.S. Citizen (required by contract)
  • Able to obtain and maintain a security clearance
  • Able to work onsite in Annapolis, MD (eligible for a hybrid schedule after an initial training period)
