Reports To: Assistant Program Coordinator Pay Range: $55,000 - $75,000

For nearly 50 years, House of Ruth has empowered women, children, and families to rebuild their lives and heal from trauma, abuse, and houselessness. We offer comprehensive services for survivors, including service-enriched housing, nationally accredited child and family development programming, and free counseling to anyone who has experienced domestic violence.

Position Summary

The Case Manager is responsible for developing a therapeutic relationship with the clients, assess strengths and needs, creates goals, implements and monitors the case management plan. Provides supportive counseling and facilitates groups. Manages the program in the coordinator’s absence.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Orient new participants and meet regularly with the clients in the office and in the community.
  • Develop a therapeutic relationship, assess strengths and needs, formulates a case management plan and implements that plan.
  • Complete and maintain accurate, thorough documentation reflecting all case management and counseling functions and activities.
  • Communicate essential issues to all relevant contacts. Gather and incorporate information from other sources regarding the individual.
  • Identify resources including housing and link adults and children to a comprehensive set of services. Advocate for services to assist the families.
  • Establish and maintain professional contacts with House of Ruth staff and staff from other organizations to ensure coordinated services.
  • Accompany and/or transport clients to appointments as needed.
  • Develop and conduct a variety of psycho-education and support groups and activities, teach a range of living skills and social skills including parenting.
  • Provide positive role modeling.
  • Provide supportive counseling, problem resolution and crisis intervention sessions. Intervene during and after an incident.
  • Ensure that the families adhere to the agreed upon program expectations and address instances of non-adherence to program policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a safe, secure and non-violent environment for all occupants.
  • Effectively manage all emergencies by following standard procedures.
  • Monitors medications, conduct urine toxicology screens and complete all related documentation.
  • Screen telephone calls and walk-ins, provides crisis intervention and make appropriate referrals.
  • Attend all training sessions and meetings.
  • Completes the initial assessment process of perspective clients.
  • Provide on call support when needed.
  • Provide on-going briefings to the program coordinator on all relevant issues and pertinent information relating to the families.
  • Other duties may be assigned.
  • Develop, maintain and collaborate with landlords in the community.
  • Input and maintain database system applicable to program.

Education And/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or related field required.
  • 1-2 years’ experience in a case manager role.
  • Experience working in a residential setting preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Successfully passing the following pre-employment process is required:
    • FBI Fingerprint/Background Check
    • Alcohol and drug Test
    • Urine Screening
    • TB Test
    • Police Clearance
    • Must be fully vaccinated including booster
    • Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle
  • Strong analytical, planning and organizing skills
  • Self-starter with good time management skills
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office 365
  • High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Good problem solving skills
  • Team player with demonstrated ability to work with cross functional teams
  • Ability to communicate and present across levels up to executive leadership
  • Demonstrated ability to teach others
  • Must be willing to travel up to 25% throughout the DC area
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule due to the 24/7 operation of House of Ruth programs
  • Exhibit a passion for working with women and/or children
