The University of Iowa Pomerantz Career Center is seeking to hire a 100% Career Advisor and Employer Engagement Specialist. The Career Advisor and Employer Engagement Specialist will have the opportunity to:

  • Assists undergraduate students with career decision-making, experiential learning opportunities, and job/internship search strategies.
  • Builds and maintains relationships within assigned campus departments.
  • Serves as content specialist for the Handshake system and assist with reporting, resources, scheduling, approvals (employers, jobs, events, users)
  • Assist in management of the day-to-day operation of the recruiting program including mock interviews, interviews, career fairs, information sessions, presentations, and other campus strategies.
  • Understands and describes the unit’s commitment to creating a workplace environment where people of all backgrounds and perspectives feel welcomed and appreciated, and the reasons for its importance.

About the Department: The Pomerantz Career Center mission is to assist the University of Iowa with enrollment management by empowering undergraduate students to become leaders, maximize their potential, and achieve professional success. We accomplish this through professional advising, innovative and experiential education, and the development of extraordinary relationships with our stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Student Development, Counseling, Higher Education, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of training and experience providing a comparable level of expertise.
  • Reasonable experience (1-3 years) of advising, coaching, teaching, training, counseling, recruiting, human resources, talent development, career services or other in a related academic or helping profession.
  • Some travel possible with driving in large metro areas – 5 or 6 overnights each year. Some overnight travel, evening, and weekend work required. A valid driver’s license and the ability to meet the University Driving Policy requirements.
  • Ability to move boxes and materials up to 40 lbs.


Competencies Required

  • Demonstrates a working proficiency level in the following competencies:
    • Educational program coordination, content development and facilitation.
    • Knowledge and ability to provide career advice, coaching, and assistance with career decision-making and internship/job search preparation, search, and strategy.
    • Written and oral skills as evidenced by a working proficiency in effective communication and the ability to build and maintain relationships with individuals and groups.
    • The ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and respectful manner while appreciating the unique contribution of an inclusive workforce that brings together the talents of people across multiple identities.
Desirable Qualifications

  • Experience working 1:1 and/or in groups with college students, preferably demonstrating a working proficiency in advising, training and/or supervising a student group.
  • Experience in supervising college or similar age student employees
  • Demonstrates ability to think creatively and develop/pilot new methods of meeting the changing career needs/expectations of a varied student population.

Additional Details

Work Modality: This position is eligible for hybrid work within Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed upon the start of your employment. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location.

Compensation: $46,000 - $54,000 with Competitive Benefits
