The Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation is a Tribal health care organization, serving nearly 30,000 people living across rural, southwest Alaska in villages with populations from about 10 to more than 1,000. Bethel, the regional hub and location of the only hospital in the region, has a population of nearly 7,000. The Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta is home to thousands of lakes and two primary rivers—the Kuskokwim and Yukon.

Position Summary

Responsible to assist in the direction of a full range of clinical pharmacy services, outpatient & inpatient, as well as all supervisory and management responsibilities related to the operation of the pharmacy department. Ensures that pharmacy services meet all federal, state and regulatory requirements. Assists in promoting and maintaining harmonious relationships and communications among pharmacy and medical providers, other departments/staff, patients and to the public. Helps establish objectives for the pharmacy service and an organizational structure for the achievement of the objectives.

Position Qualifications

  • Minimum Education: Degree in Pharmacy (i.e., B.S. or Pharm D.) from a school or college of pharmacy accredited by the American Council on Pharmaceutical Education (ACPE) is required
  • Minimum Experience:
    • Minimum of four years pharmacy work experience with demonstrated leadership abilities.
    • Management or supervisory experience preferred.
    • Experience in multiple areas of pharmacy (ie, outpatient, clinic, inpatient) preferred.
  • License, Certification, Registration:
    • Licensure in the State of Alaska is required.
    • Be certified, or eligible to be certified, in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS).
  • Equipment/Tools: Computer proficiency with various software, calculator, multi-line phone, fax/copy machine.
  • Specialized Knowledge and Skills:
    • Proficiency with MS-Excel, Word, Pyxis, PickPoint, ScriptPro, Cerner Millennium applications, Cerner Retail Pharmacy (Etreby), and KRONOS iSeries Timekeeping systems.
  • Computer /Office Machine skills: Ability to type 40 wpm, operate 10-key calculator and other standard office equipment.
  • Language Skills:
    • Ability to read and comprehend complex instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
    • Ability to write detailed correspondence.
    • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees.
    • Must have excellent interpersonal and written/oral communication skills.
  • Reasoning Ability:
    • Ability to solve practical problems and manage a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardized exists.
    • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule formats.
    • Ability to make decisions in a timely manner on limited but adequate information.
  • Organizational Skills:
    • Must be able to complete a variety of tasks simultaneously, prioritize workload, and meet reporting and completion deadlines with attention to detail.
    • Demonstrated strength in process and procedure.
  • Communication/People Skills:
    • This position requires an extremely perceptive person, who is capable of relating to individuals at all levels.
    • Must have excellent interpersonal and written/oral communication skills.
    • As unique situations present themselves, the incumbent must be sensitive to Corporate needs, employee goodwill, and the public image.
    • Ability to influence, solve problems and successfully collaborate and communicate with all levels of management and internal/external YKHC customers.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities:
    • Assumes the responsibilities of the Director of Pharmacy in his/her absence.
    • Directly supervises departmental staff (pharmacists as well as technicians and other support staff)
