Position Summary
The Department of Student Affairs (DSA) is a forward-thinking student success operation committed to its role as the leading custodial unit guiding the student experience at the University of Northern Colorado (UNC). Staff members within DSA are expected to positively contribute to our mission of supporting students in the co-curricular environment and provide an experience that inspires students academically, personally, and emotionally.
The Assistant Director of Facilities and Operations is an integral part of Campus Recreation at the University of Northern Colorado and is responsible for the administration of a range of services, including: management and maintenance of the facility, coordination of rental groups and special events, management of member services and entry desk operations, implementation of the risk management plan, and providing direction for student employment processes and employee development for the department. The position partners with the Associate Director of Campus Recreation to oversee the facility budget and the repair and replacement budget. The Assistant Director is directly responsible for the selection, training and supervision of the maintenance and operations staff.
Job Duties
Facility and Risk Management
Provides supervision and direction for the day-to-day operations of the Campus Recreation Center including customer service, risk management, light custodial, and Pro Shop services. Acts as liaison for the Facilities Management Department and other facility service providers, as well as, tracks the work orders. Assists the Director and Associate Director with capital project requests and developing maintenance schedules over breaks. Manages general facility and equipment maintenance and helps coordinate custodial operations. Assists the Rec Sports Manager in outdoor facility maintenance. Provides direction for all event operations, including, set-up, tear-down, staffing, and scheduling. Provides supervision and direction of front desk procedures, including: access control, equipment rental, locker services, first aid and emergency response, and Pro Shop sales and services. Implements the risk management plan for the Campus Recreation Center with emphasis on first aid, evacuation procedures and rule enforcement. 20% (Essential Function)
Personnel and Fiscal Management
The Assistant Director assists with human resource functions within the department by managing payroll processes and personnel records. Coordinates with department staff to conduct employee training related to customer service, risk management and information technology. Provides supervision and direction for the hiring, training, and development of department student employees, including Building Supervisors, Open Recreation Attendants and Student Custodians. Monitors all budgets related to facilities, athletic supplies, student payroll, and revenue from memberships, facility rental and pro shop sales. 30% (Essential Function)
Program Management
The Assistant Director serves as the department representative in the creation and implementation of campus-wide programs and events designed to enhance University recruitment and retention efforts. The Assistant Director develops and maintains collaborative relationships throughout the institution, in order to develop joint programming opportunities and maximize use of available resources. Recruits and maintains memberships through marketing, programming and building relationships with members. Coordinates with Campus Recreation Staff in the planning and implementation of all student staff trainings. Oversees the scheduling and logistics of all events and activities in the Campus Recreation Center through the scheduling software including classes, practices, recreational programs, and special events. Collaborates with the office of Conference and Event Services regarding external rental groups and summer camps. 35% (Essential)
Technology and Assessment
Provides leadership, training, and oversight for the facility scheduling, management, and shift scheduling software. Administers online program area surveys to gauge member satisfaction levels, constructive feedback, and learning objective achievements. 15% (Essential)
