    I am often asked, with all the investments in data management and infrastructure over the last 50 years, why are we still not great with governing data? To put it simply and directly – it’s hard! Data governance programs are easy to envision conceptually, difficult to implement, and without proper care, impossible to sustain. Often data governance investments have a long ‘time to value’ ROI, making showing incremental progress along with sustainment of the investments very important. Nothing like setting the bar high for all the organizations making investments into data governance. Understanding why things have failed in the past is just as important as designing for the future, so let’s cover some of the common pitfalls.

    Led an effort for a bank looking to review the current state of their Data Governance organization, including staffing / organization, scoping for Enterprise team, and recommendations for improvements to the organization. Our future state design included recommendations for how to set up the organization, communicate / manage change, and improve overall Data Quality.

    Led an effort to create an Enterprise Data Governance roadmap for a large Healthcare Provider organization. The project included designing the initial data governance organization, outlining scoping, required technologies, and overall rollout for the program. Additionally, also worked with the organization to look at Enterprise Data Quality and Enterprise Reporting strategy needs.

  • Insurance - Enterprise Data Governance / Data Quality

    - Present

    Assisted in the overall effort for rolling out Enterprise Data Governance at a large Insurance company. Roles included helping to review current state of the organization, determining existing gaps, and identifying specific risks needing remediation for the data organization. Additionally, helped to identify key data elements requiring control and monitoring, and assisting in the development of data quality rules for implementation.
