What are the benefits and challenges of solution selling?
More salespeople than we all care to admit sell a product without knowing what problem they are solving for a customer. Thats the truth. You see, if you are pitching a product rather than conducting deep discovery and understanding a clients Business Problem, you are shifting the onus to the customer to connect their problem to your solution. "Who cares? We won the deal didn't we??" You did but will they still be a customer in a years time? When your company has spent a great deal of time trying to implement them, support them, maybe even build or enhance products to make them happy? No chance of being a reference. No referrals. Conduct Discovery with an emphasis on uncovering 'Business Problems' You will never look back.

How do you develop a solution selling mindset in your sales team?
You have to start with the foundational elements of the problems your product or service solves. Assemble a tiger team who work to identify the problems you solve, who the target personas are, together with identifying what the bullseye of your ICP looks like. Next step is aligning the sales team around these problems and equip them with ways to help the customer unlock and recognize that there is problem.
