“I first got to know Corey when he was a staff writer at the Chronicle and he was covering the closure of highway rest areas in Connecticut and I had offered legislation to get them back open. Since then he has moved on to other reporting and writing positions but we have continued to communicate on several issues, including tolls and a continuation of the discussion of reopening rest areas. Corey is thorough in asking questions to get not only a news story but enough background information to put it in context for the reader. I have read many articles that he has written over the years and they don't just present the bare bones facts - they bring the reader to the conclusion that yes, this piece of news is important and should be read. He is committed to his field and I recommend his services.”

Here's how you can effectively follow up with new contacts after networking events.
It is best to follow up with your contact within 24 hours before the contact forgets that he or she met you at an event with information on specifically how you guys met, i.e.: at a vendor booth, at a specific conference, etc.

“Supporters and Opponents Discuss Newly Reopened I-95 North Westbrook Welcome Center” was one of 7 finalists for the Connecticut Society of Professional Journalists 2018 Excellence in Journalism award for the Government category for Regional B. The article, with several photos, centers on the Interstate 95 North Westbrook Welcome Center, an indoor facility with restrooms, vending machines, and a staffed information desk with brochures along with outdoor amenities including a small parking lot, porta-potties, picnic areas, a sheltered gazebo with benches, a canine pet area and gardens. Local residents and officials gave feedback on a recent multi-million dollar project to bring this facility back to life after it was abandonded due to state budget cuts. Those in favor of the facility reopening say it will increase tourism to the Connecticut River Valley, will allow local residents to learn more about attractions and events in their communities and gives I-95 travelers a place to rest while opponents say it is a waste of money, that there are adequate facilities on the interstate for travelers to rest, and that tourist information can be obtained using smart devices.
