About us

The Wisconsin Geological and Natural History Survey (WGNHS) has been working to serve Wisconsin for over 125 years. We provide objective scientific information about the geology, mineral resources, and water resources of Wisconsin. WGNHS also conducts natural resources surveys and research to produce information used for planning, management, development, and education. Part of UW-Madison, Division of Extension, WGNHS collects, interprets, disseminates, and archives natural resource information.
