A lot of factors may affect whether a person develops a mental illness or addiction. The State of Ohio Adversity and Resilience (SOAR) Study is the first to examine all the factors at once — biological, psychological and social — and not just within individuals, but within families as well.

The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center is experiencing some technology issues resulting from the CrowdStrike global IT outage. We have backup procedures in place and we are implementing vendor repairs. This is our current status: All of our facilities are open. Patients with appointments should report as planned unless they are contacted with other instructions. There may be delays due to our backup procedures and we appreciate our patients’ understanding. We are continuing to monitor and adjust to the situation. Patient safety and high-quality care are always our top priorities.

In 2020 Andrea Najas, then 17, was diagnosed with osteosarcoma. With few options at her home in Ecuador, she traveled thousands of miles to The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center-James Cancer Hospital & Solove Research Institute for treatment under the care of Dr. Joel Mayerson. Now cancer-free, Najas and her parents have partnered with Mayerson to start a collaborative board of oncologists in Ecuador with the goal to bring the latest in sarcoma care to the country.
