Helping FQHCs, public health departments, and other health nonprofits win more grants, gain greater strategic clarity, and meet community needs. Writer. Facilitator. She/her.
It's tips Tuesday! There are a lot of grants out there, so I want to provide a few grant writing tips. Today I'm focusing on the grant narrative itself and sharing some advice to help you craft a strong, competitive, and compliant application: 📏 Use the Page Limit Wisely: While it's not necessary to fill every page allowed by the funder just for the sake of it, the page limit generally indicates the expected depth and breadth of a good application. For example, with a 50-page limit, aim for 20-40 pages of high-quality content. Remember, more pages don’t necessarily mean a better application! Clarity and completeness are what matter most. 📈 Enhance Key Areas: If your draft is on the shorter side, look for opportunities to strengthen sections, especially those that help provide a full picture of your proposed program, the unique qualifications of your organization, or the needs you are responding to. Again, while more pages don't automatically mean a better application, underutilizing the allowed space can mean missed opportunities to fully justify and explain your program to the funder. 🔍 Review and Refine: Review your draft to ensure no sections are missing; some questions might be easy to overlook or you might think they are fully covered in a form or attachment. Make sure all necessary sections and questions are robust and comprehensive, clearly articulating your program's impact and how it addresses the specific identified needs. I hope these tips help you in writing your next grant narrative! What other tips would you add? P.S. Need help with any upcoming grants like your health center's next SAC? We’re at full capacity for the summer, but I would love to connect about any grants you are looking at later this year or into next year. #GrantWriting #Healthcare #HRSA
