Meet Yolanda Lewis - our Warehouse Management summer intern! Yolanda is a rising senior at the University of North Texas, majoring in business with a concentration in supply chain management. She is highly motivated and incredibly determined to achieve her goals. Yolanda has three children and three grandchildren, and at the height of COVID-19, she decided to return to high school and earn her diploma. She didn't stop there - she is now a first-generation college student and is spending her summer getting hands-on experience with the SSC team at Parker University. Her favorite part about working for SSC has been encountering new challenges and opportunities. She is currently working to reorganize and map the warehouse on campus and looks forward to the different situations that each day brings. Welcome to the team, Yolanda! #SSCServicesforEducation #ConradLeadershipProgram #SummerInterns #WarehouseManagement Dr. Emmett J. Conrad Leadership Program

Meet Ivette Ontiveros, our Summer HR Intern! Ivette is a recent graduate of the University of North Texas in Dallas. She earned her bachelor’s degree in sociology, but rather than pursuing a career in social work like many of her fellow sociology majors, Ivette is jumping into a career in HR. She is currently working with our teams at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. Ivette is most looking forward to working hands-on with unit directors, managers and our HR team. She believes that this experience will be incredibly valuable in building her career skills. Her day-to-day responsibilities include assisting our onsite admins with onboarding new associates and working alongside our DEI team on upcoming initiatives and partnerships. In June, Ivette even made the trip to Knoxville, TN, to assist the HR team with New Manager Training and network with SSC’s newest leaders. #SummerInterns #SSCServicesforEducation #ConradLeadershipProgram Dr. Emmett J. Meet Marcus Johnson, our Facilities Management Intern! Marcus is a rising senior at The University of Texas at Austin, majoring in civil engineering. If he looks familiar, it's because he is entering his second year as an intern with SSC! Marcus started his internship last summer and has continued to work with our teams at Parker University and the Texas A&M University regional campuses throughout the academic year into this summer. A significant focus of his internship has been solving specific facilities challenges on our partner campuses. Some of his favorite experiences have been finding the best vendors for our needs and coordinating their work on campus projects. As he continues on with SSC, he shared that he has most enjoyed learning the ins and outs of professional communication and appreciates how everyone he works alongside is open to sharing knowledge and information. #SummerInterns #ConradLeadershipProgram #SSCServicesforEducation Dr. Emmett J. AJ Sims is a unit director for custodial operations at Texas A&M University, and when he isn't working hard maintaining campus facilities, he is playing harder as a cornhole champion. AJ is a familiar face in the cornhole community - he has been an ACL Pro for over four years, and his most recent win came last weekend, when he and his doubles partner, Brayden Wilson, took home the Overall Champ title in the Pro Shootout Doubles Final 4. Congratulations, AJ and Brayden!

Facilities management is a diverse and dynamic field - and as it continues to grow, we see more and more women stepping in, discovering their passion, and impacting the industry. Training and Development Manager Nicholle Dwyer and Operations Managers Isabel Wormington and Chakakan Watson's stories are excellent examples of what it looks like for women to reset expectations in a male-dominated field, advocate for themselves, and create a culture that encourages other women to enter the industry. Nickie, Isabel, and Chakakhan recently collaborated on an article for FacilitiesNet/NFMT. Click here to read their stories: https://lnkd.in/guGCpurD

It was a busy week at Texas A&M University, with the first international soccer match ever hosted at Kyle Field on June 8 and a George Strait concert on June 15 that set a new record for the largest concert ever held in the US. Kudos to everyone on campus—from our custodial, grounds, and maintenance teams to the Texas A&M Facilities & Operations team and Levy Restaurants—for all the work put into making these events an incredible success.
I think I can speak for everyone that helped to make the first international soccer game and concert at Kyle Field happen, when I say that it’s been a wild, exhausting but incredibly exciting time. Not many people understand the amount of hard work that it takes to make these type of events happen and for those that do, the dedication pays off. I am extremely proud of our SSC Services For Education crew here at Texas A&M to help be a part of these historical two weeks and want to give a shout out to Kody Wood and the rest of his team for the endless dedication to their craft and allowing us to work beside them day in and day out.
