Join us LIVE for Sierra Health Foundation's Speaker Series event August 8th, 11am PST, featuring Planting Justice. Many urban communities face limited access to healthy and fresh food as a result of policies and practices that have intentionally disrupted people’s economic mobility and relationship with the land, especially among communities of color. Failure to acknowledge the clear connections between food justice, environmental justice, social justice and economic justice has only deepened persistent health and wealth inequities. Planting Justice addresses inequitable access to healthy food, safe community space and quality jobs, particularly for people who have been formerly incarcerated, through holistic re-entry services, food distribution, youth education and internships, fair wage employment and creation of urban food systems. Headquartered in Oakland, Planting Justice has expanded their educational, employment and food distribution efforts into South Sacramento in partnership with Sacramento County and local nonprofit organizations.

The Center's Senior Program Officer Myel Thelen Jenkins discusses our culturally relevant approach to addressing stigmas in health systems and access to healthcare. She states that in our work at The Center we recognize the profound impact of historical trauma within healthcare policies on communities of color. By fostering community-led initiatives and prioritizing culturally appropriate care, The Center is bridging gaps that have been previously unaddressed. For example, our work in the vaccine equity space ensured that COVID vaccines were understood and communicated as beneficial for all families.

Sierra Health Foundation reposted this
Important news for harm reduction in California: a judge has ruled that El Dorado County cannot enforce its local ban on syringe services programs while the state Department of Public Health lawsuit against the county proceeds. It's also a good indication that the state is likely to win, which would establish the state's ability to authorize SSPs anywhere that they're needed and protect other harm reduction groups from similar troubles. Here at Sierra Health Foundation we're proud to fund the lifesaving work of the Sierra Harm Reduction Coalition across El Dorado County and relieved that they can get back to work. https://lnkd.in/gbX2a6yv

Breaking down barriers and creating opportunities for boys and men of color in California is not just a mission, it’s a movement. For the past decade, The Center's California Funders for Boys and Men of Color (CFBMoC) has united leaders from top philanthropic institutions to ensure that our young men of color thrive. Young men of color in California need full inclusion and access. As they flourish, so does California’s prosperity. #CFBMoC #BreakingBarriers #CreatingOpportunities #Inclusion #CollectiveImpact #BoysAndMenOfColor #CaliforniaProsperity #Philanthropy #EquityForAll Christopher Cooper, MPA
