A transformative workplace with community and wellness planted at the heart. A forward-thinking government agency has moved to a waterfront location in Dublin’s docklands, situated within a mixed-use development. The design of their new home draws inspiration from the city's maritime history and the many sails in the harbor. From day one, our client’s mission has been to create a workplace that defines a new way of working for the future—one that enhances connectivity and collaboration, is highly transparent, maximizes access to views of the river and docks, and supports the well-being of their people. We’re more than excited to welcome Damon A. Sheppard, AIA, LEED AP, NOMA as the new managing director of our Washington, D.C. studio. A Baltimore native who has called the district home for 30 years, Damon steps into this role as Chris Morrison FAIA transitions back to full-time practice after leading the studio since 2014. Damon joins us after 12 years with another D.C.-based architecture firm, where he most recently oversaw the regional science and technology practice and co-chaired the Diversity Advisory Council. He also taught at Howard University’s School of Architecture, his alma mater, and continues to inspire future architects as a guest lecturer and design juror. “One of the things that attracted me to Perkins&Will is the firm’s emphasis on people and doing right by them—not only within the firm itself, but also within the community. That’s very important to me,” says Damon. “I love beautifully designed buildings, but what really gets me excited is knowing that the projects I’m working on are going to have a positive impact on people.” Get to know Damon: https://lnkd.in/e9VmHg-T

Our revitalization of the D.B. Weldon Library at Western University in London, Ontario, celebrates renowned Australian architect John Andrews’ design while adapting the 1967 brutalist landmark for 21st century service. To begin, we stripped away the many layers of previous renovations to reveal the legacy architecture and then built back with sympathetic interventions developed in close consultation with our clients. The result of this process is a brighter interior alive with plantings where book storage has been consolidated to create more spaces for studying, learning, and research, and energy consumption has been reduced by 30%. In this installment of The Fold, we walk you through the steps we took to update the Weldon Library’s space planning and materials palette, setting up a productive dialog between past and present. Learn more about the project on Instagram (@perkinswill) and our website: https://lnkd.in/eYFRmTZX  𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 '𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗼𝗹𝗱’?: A periodical social media series documenting the processes behind our award-winning designs. Each post presents a focused look at the steps our teams take when thinking through design problems on behalf of our clients, going beyond finished photography to reveal the research, sketches, diagrams, models, mockups, and designer perspectives that go into translating ideas into realities. Whether it’s articulating a facade to complement its urban context or peeling back the layers of history to reveal the cultural capital of an existing building, The Fold shows you our projects like you’ve never seen them before.

A dreamy, eco-savvy retreat in the San Juan Islands of Washington State   Accessible only by boat, Camp Everhappy is a remote, off-grid cabin that embodies the idea of living lightly on the land. Originally designed in the 1970s by Boeing engineer Hugh Pape, it features a series of prefabricated structures with separate pods for the bedroom, kitchen/dining, and living room. The cabin fell into disrepair over the years, so our Bainbridge studio, McLennan Design, stepped in to restore and revitalize it, adding a new kitchen and interior fit-out. Blending seamlessly with the landscape, the trio of pods nestles among the trees, offering guests a serene getaway. The project demonstrates that even the smallest interventions can be transformative when paired with regenerative and restorative design considerations. Check out the details in Dwell (https://lnkd.in/gqR2-GS4) or on McLennan Design Perkins&Will Bainbridge Island's website (https://lnkd.in/erZeyrcq).

But what does this mean? WiredScore Certification confirms that #150Holborn excels in digital connectivity, wired infrastructure, resilience, and wireless network quality. SmartScore Certification highlights the project’s exceptional user experience, cost efficiencies, high sustainability standards, and future-proof design. A big thank you to our design and building management teams for bringing this vision to life. We’re proud to see its smart credentials recognized!

With rising sea levels, severe storms, and increased flooding, today’s buildings must account for the climate change risks of tomorrow. Columbia University's new Philip & Cheryl Milstein Family Tennis Center is the future of flood-resilient architecture, rethinking how structures interact with water. Instead of trying to keep water out, the facility is intentionally designed to let it in. Discover the home court for Columbia’s collegiate athletes and learn more about our design approach in this month’s Architectural Record Sports & Recreation issue: https://lnkd.in/gevX7Pcw
