Every technology can be a boon or a bane, and AI is no different.  Highlights from the AI Business article indicate that ethical AI is a critical issue: -54% of businesses are deeply concerned about AI bias, and 69% do data quality checks to avoid this. 81% want government regulation to define and prevent bias. -22% of executives cite data privacy as their top ethical concern with generative AI. -Accountability for AI decisions remains a complex challenge - it's unclear if the developer, user or AI system itself should be held responsible. -Industry leaders must play a pivotal role, committing to transparency, building diverse teams, and collaborating across sectors to ensure ethical and inclusive AI development. -The key is balancing innovation with ethical principles to create AI that enhances lives while respecting human values. Collective vigilance, dialogue, and upholding ethical standards are essential on this journey. UN Women report highlights critical challenges and opportunities in AI and gender equality: -In low-income countries, only 20% of women are connected to the internet -44% of AI systems show gender bias, 25% exhibit both gender and racial bias -Only 30% of AI workers are women -Women account for just 29% of all STEM workers Artificial Intelligence reflects and perpetuates gender biases present in our society, posing significant challenges to achieving gender equality. Despite increasing global internet access for women, the gender digital divide persists, particularly affecting low-income countries where only 20% of women are connected. AI chatbots got questions about the 2024 election wrong 27% of the time. - NBC News In a recent study, AI chatbots were tested on their accuracy regarding voting and the 2024 election. They were asked 216 unique questions over ten days, generating 2,784 responses. Results showed that these models gave incorrect answers 27% of the time. At Omdena, we combat misinformation by leveraging a diverse community of global data scientists, AI experts, and domain specialists. Omdena addresses the complex problem of identifying and countering misinformation.
