    Juneteenth – also known as America’s Second Independence Day – is celebrated to commemorate the ending of slavery in the United States. On June 19, 1865 the final enforcement of the Emancipation Proclamation was ordered in Texas, two and a half years after the proclamation was signed. 156 years later, Juneteenth was officially made a federal holiday in 2021. Then, in 2022, our team-led Community of Change committee successfully petitioned the O.H. President’s Council to honor Juneteenth by giving staff the day off for observance, reflection, and community engagement. Happy Juneteenth!

The vibrant campaign was inspired by the chance to win a steamy Miami getaway to experience the Billboard Latin Music Week – along with the chance to win $1 million of course 🔥 In addition to more traditional media placements, we were excited to work with the Arizona Lottery to develop their first ever branded augmented reality Snapchat Lens to reach younger audiences.

    Pride (noun): confidence and self-respect as expressed by members of a group, typically one that has been socially marginalized, on the basis of their shared identity, culture, and experience. “Pride is a celebration of the battles that have been fought and won, and a reminder to all in the community that there is support for the fights yet to come.” Associate Creative Director Joe W. said about this artwork that commemorates the Stonewall Uprising which took place in June of 1969. “Honoring Pride in the month of June pays tribute to those who stood up against oppression and brutality for the sake of all in the community.”

    In recognition and honor of Memorial Day, this artwork by O.H. Designer Gabe H. features poppies and a postal stamp motif in recognition of poppies as a symbol of remembrance and the woman who spearheaded WWI remembrance advocacy. The poppy as a symbol to honor those who gave all began in 1915 when Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae wrote the poem, “In Flanders Fields” after a World War I battle that resulted in the deaths of 87,000 Allied soldiers. He was deeply moved witnessing the barren meadows covered in red poppies after the battle. The tradition of wearing a red poppy for Memorial Day was started by professor and WWI volunteer Moina Michael, who read McCrae’s poem and wrote her own poem in response, “We Shall Keep the Faith,” and sold fabric poppies to raise funds to support veterans. Decades later, Moina was posthumously honored with a commemorative USPS stamp featuring her likeness and the words, “Founder of Memorial Poppy.”

    This month our staff-led Community of Change committee hosted a panel highlighting the varied experiences of teammates with Asian and Pacific Islander heritage and the broader AAPI community, which is the fastest growing demographic in the United States. As this demographic grows, it’s important for marketers and brands to appreciate and understand what AAPI individuals value as they make purchasing decisions - which is just one of many reasons why diversity of perspective makes our team stronger and better able to deliver innovative, insightful work to our clients.
