📢 NYSBDC Advisor Willa Smith Earns Prestigious 2024 State Star Award! Willa Smith, Advanced Certified Business Advisor at Stony Brook Small Business Development Center (SBDC), has been honored with America's SBDC 2024 "State Star" award for New York. This recognition highlights her exemplary performance and significant contributions to the SBDC program and small business community. Since rejoining the Stony Brook SBDC team in 2020, Willa has assisted 467 clients, helping them secure over $61.5 million in loans, grants, and other financing and save or create 2,404 jobs. Her expertise in credit underwriting, risk assessment, and financial analysis has been instrumental in guiding business owners to secure funding and grow their operations. Willa will be celebrated, along with other State Stars from across the U.S., at the upcoming America's SBDC Annual Conference in Atlanta this September. The Albany SBDC recently helped organize and participate in the highly successful Upstate NY Matchmaker event, which took place on July 16, 2024, at the Marriott Albany. This event brought together New York State government agencies, prime contractors, small business owners, and resource partners. Our Albany SBDC team was well-represented, with Business Advisors Greg Chanese, Matthew Hosek, and Regional Director Kate Baker. We were also excited to see our NYSBDC Procurement Specialist, Gina Hayduk, from the Mohawk Valley Small Business Development Center. NYSBDC State Director Sonya Smith MBA attended the event, supporting our team and networking with various resource partners and representatives from organizations such as the U.S. Small Business Administration, Pursuit, DASNY (Dormitory Authority - State of New York ), and LAGUARDIA APEX ACCELERATOR. We also had a great time connecting with several of our NYSBDC clients who attended the event! We are grateful to all the partners who made this event successful. I had the pleasure of attending the SBA Syracuse District Office Upstate NY Matchmaker event this week at the Albany Marriott with Wesley Slyke Pursuit was a sponsor along with New York SBDC, IgniteU NY, New York State Technology Enterprise Corporation (NYSTEC), The State University of New York, U.S. Small Business Administration and Empire APEX Accelerator.
