Last week Braze announced their very own CDP - which they are calling the Braze Data Cloud. As I wrote in a post two weeks ago, CDPs and Engagement Platforms are rapidly converging. This is another example of that. While they’re not calling themselves a CDP, this is Braze’s version of a CDP - with them touting their ability to collect, unify, and activate your customer data. Braze continues to work to get customer data and attributes into and out of their data platform, and it’s our view that this is the wrong end goal for most large brands. There is now a significant wedge developing with competing martech camps: Packaged, SaaS solutions vs composable, warehouse-native solutions. As brands are increasingly leveraging modern data platforms (Snowflake, Big Query, Databricks, etc.) for comprehensive views of their customer data, how brands should best leverage that data is rightly becoming front and center. If you are looking for the fullest use of your data, that is most real-time and secure, and at the least cost - a warehouse-native approach is the best solution in most cases. That means for many brands, you should leverage your customer data where it natively lives, across customer activation AND engagement.
