Throughout my career, I’ve received “feedback” that my positive outlook and desire to create an enjoyable work environment can be interpreted as passive or not focused enough to achieve established goals. Apparently, my jovial spirit doesn’t align with “a sense of urgency” which is a phrase I have come to loathe. Prioritizing “fun” into my strategy is CRITICAL to my success. Read that again. For my leadership style, I must have buy-in and personal investment. I want a team that is active and feels part of the process not just bots that execute my orders. This doesn’t mean there aren’t tough and miserable days- far from it, but it is my goal to elevate the good days making the hard days feel less impossible, and together we can face head-on the challenges that lie ahead. “Fun” allows for innovation, creativity, kindness and respect. When you alleviate fear, your team is free to try new things without the concern of retribution. When you create a “fun” environment, you are reinforcing that mistakes will happen, and goals will be missed, but you have a team that will support you through those mistakes and failures, learn and grow together from those errors, and together will move towards success. "Fun" allows me to love my job and my colleagues; be honest, how many of us can you say that? #highereducation #higheredmarketing #lovemyjob #havefunatwork #innovation #admissions #enrollmentmanagement
