Joslin's DEI Committee hosted a Juneteenth Celebration in the Atrium at Joslin Diabetes Center. The event featured the raising of the Juneteenth flag and a beautiful performance of the the black national anthem, ‘Lift Every Voice and Sing,' by Janice Allen. June 19th marks the day in 1865 when Union soldiers reached Galveston, Texas to inform the enslaved people there that the Civil War was over and they were free.
Today, we commemorate Juneteenth, a day of profound significance in American history. As we honor the end of slavery in the United States, we reflect on our ongoing commitment to equity, inclusion, and justice. At Beth Israel Lahey Health, we stand together in solidarity, celebrating freedom and advocating for a future where everyone thrives.
