The IMPC is an international programme to find the function of every protein-coding gene in the mouse genome
About us
The International Mouse Phenotyping Consortium (IMPC) is building the first truly comprehensive, functional catalogue of a mammalian genome. Consisting of the largest mouse research centres, IMPC partners are generating a mutant mouse strain for every gene and then assessing these strains for abnormalities related to human disease. All resulting data is freely available and IMPC strains are provided to the scientific community through public repositories. By coordinating their efforts and sharing expertise, IMPC partners are furthering discovery into the genetic underpinnings of disease.

We are proud to be part of this new paper, Improving Laboratory Animal Genetic Reporting: LAG-R Guidelines, now published in Nature Communications. https://lnkd.in/ey5QVedy This international effort is signed by leading experts, international societies, infrastructures and consortia. It provides a set of guidelines to support more complete documentation of the genetic make-up of animals of all species that are used in research, with the aim of bolstering reproducibility, reliability, and overall scientific rigour.

| 📚 new publication | Our partners from Mary Lyon Centre at MRC Harwell and Institut Clinique De La Souris ICS, have published "Improving laboratory animal genetic reporting: LAG-R guidelines" in Nature Communications. This work presents the Laboratory Animal Genetic Reporting (LAG-R) framework, a collection of guidelines to help the biomedical research community to overcome the reproducibility challenges faced in animal studies. These guidelines aim to enhance the transparency and completeness of genetic information reported in scientific publications involving laboratory animals. Many other INFRAFRONTIER partners and colleagues, including the IMPC - International Mouse Phenotyping Consortium, CELPHEDIA, and International Society for Transgenic Technologies, have also contributed to this publication. #IMPCinResearch highlights research using IMPC resources with Rolfe et al. Biol Open (2023) 12 (2). Using mouse embryo microCT images generated by IMPC, freely available on the IMPC website, Rolfe et al. created deep learning tool to allow researchers to obtain estimates of multi-organ segmentation from fetal mouse scans. Atlas-based methods for segmentation are the current gold standard for segmentation analysis and this was used to generate a dataset for training the Mouse Embryo Multi-Organ Segmentation (MEMOS) tool for segmentation and quantification of anatomical structures from mouse embryo microCT images. They then validated the tool by analysing Cbx4 embryos with reported anatomical abnormalities. This tool allows analysis of large datasets with improved accuracy and efficiency and it is an open source for all researchers without requiring a prior coding knowledge. MEMOS is also customisable for specific segmentation tasks.
