About us

Our work at HMH is the outcome of our guiding purpose, vision, and values. By learning more about us, you’ll discover what makes our products and services so exceptional. It’s not only because of our long history of innovation but also because of our people and their commitment to educators and learners. We share an understanding of what an enormous privilege it is to invite young people to become the heroes of their own narratives, to shape the arc of a story, and to change a life. That is the power of learning. We bring learning to countless students and teachers—transforming lives, supporting communities, and making our society more open, just, and inclusive for all.

Happy Pride! At HMH we proudly recognize and support the LGBTQ+ community within our organization and across the education space, not only this month, but every day. Brett Whitmarsh, Vice President of Professional Books and Media and senior leadership sponsor of HMH's Pride employee resource group, shares more: “When someone is free to express their true identity, it enriches our world. Pride Month honors the work the LGBTQ+ community has done, and continues to do, to make this world a safer place for each and every one of us to exist as our authentic selves. The word ‘pride’ represents a public celebration of identity and an ongoing commitment to continue to fight for equality, and that’s what the HMH Pride employee resource group strives to support.” (Pictured from left to right: Stephanie Bischoff, Seth LeGassick, and Jennifer Bischoff.)

    • Three HMH employees smile for a picture while working a table at an outdoor event. Each employee is wearing a shirt that has a different pride saying, and the white table in front of them has various rainbow swag. Behind the employees is a flag with rainbow and trans print, and white letters that read: American Cancer Society. Beneath the photo is a yellow bar that reads: Honoring Pride Month. Next to this text is the logo for the HMH Pride employee resource group.

We're proud too, Jodi! Success doesn't happen in a single day, but it can happen on a single platform — where district priorities can be scaled with consistency to help ensure all learners realize their fullest potential. Using HMH Into Reading, teachers can access everything they need in one place to facilitate systematic and explicit whole- and small-group reading instruction and to support students as they work independently. “I love Into Reading. I could work with all those different ability groups in one room because I had the tools to differentiate.” Into Reading puts everything teachers need in one place so they can facilitate whole- and small-group reading instruction—and to support students as they work independently, too. “I’m really excited for all the opportunities that Teacher of the Year has given me and my students.” During her sabbatical, 2024 Illinois State Teacher of the Year Briana Morales has been busy uplifting her community and centering student experiences. 🙌 In honor of one of her late students, Briana established (Sister)Hood of Hope, a nonprofit dedicated to elevating the voices, power, and brilliance of girls of color in Illinois. Thanks to a generous donation from the Drew Barrymore Show and Five Below, 20 students will be able to participate for free this year. The high school English teacher is also working with her students to publish a book of poetry. ✍️ Hear more about Briana’s teacher journey on the latest episode of Teachers in America: http://spr.ly/6049gaowh Photo of Brianna Morales with Drew Barrymore courtesy of CBS.
