The Penny Doerge Adaptive Academy at the HSS Lerner Children's Pavilion organizes local, regional and national adaptive programs for kids and teens facing a range of disabilities. These events help patients realize new skills and interests, reinforce therapy goals and allow patients to socialize with other patients. Congratulations to Sheeraz Qureshi, MD, MBA, co-chief of HSS Spine who has been appointed as Chief Medical Officer of HSS Florida and David Backstein, MD, as Medical Director of HSS at NCH. Dr. Qureshi will succeed Douglas E. Padgett, MD, who was appointed Surgeon-in-Chief and Medical Director of the HSS enterprise in September. Dr. Backstein will succeed David L. Helfet, MD, who will continue to serve as Founding Medical Director of HSS at NCH. A massive global technology outage is impacting organizations of all types, including HSS. It has disabled some HSS computers and systems. A vigorous, coordinated effort between HSS clinical, IT and related staff is working to restore all computers and systems. HSS’ highest priority is patient safety and all appropriate safeguards are in place. Until further notice we are proceeding with all patient care at all locations, but delays should be expected.

Congratulations to Constantine A. Demetracopoulos, MD, foot and ankle surgeon at HSS, who has been appointed chief of the Foot and Ankle Service. Dr. Demetracopoulos will succeed Matthew M. Roberts, MD, who has led the Foot and Ankle Service since 2013. For the third year running, we were proud to partner with The Business Council of Westchester for the HSS Day of Wellness at the Scarsdale Golf Club in Westchester County. The event which promotes healthy activity and mental wellness, attracted a strong turnout under sunny skies for golf, tennis, yoga and guided relaxation. Justin Oppenheimer, Executive Vice President and Chief Strategy, Growth, and Transformation Officer, welcomed the golfers and thanked the club, its staff and others who made the day possible. Justin teamed with New York Knicks legend John Starks, Frank Mennone, Senior Director of Community & Physician Engagement, and friend Jesse Santamaria on the golf course. Drs. Christine Yu and Jennifer Berger, perioperative medicine physicians, took to the courts for a vigorous afternoon of tennis. Dr. Jacklyn McKenna, primary sports medicine physician, provided closing remarks at the evening cocktail reception. She congratulated all participants, spoke about the many offerings at HSS Westchester, and expressed HSS’ appreciation in being able to sponsor the event.
