Providing impact in key areas such as financial literacy education is foundational to building strength and stability in our communities. This week our Huntington colleagues were helping students learn about budgeting, career planning, credit, and setting goals through a real-life budgeting simulation. Students from the Boys and Girls Club were assigned a career, credit score, annual income, family size and a marital status and then visited stations to choose their housing, transportation, clothing, food, entertainment and childcare. This activity taught students about needs vs wants and important budgeting skills. We also had groups of Huntington volunteers help fill backpacks with school supplies that will be distributed to students as they get ready to head back to school next month. It takes a village and together we can make a difference and help our communities thrive. Columbus City Council is moving forward with several pieces of housing legislation, including a pilot program that would help residents add an ADU (Accessory Dwelling Unit, or a secondary housing unit) to their single family residential property. >>

"So, I think that that's maybe a perception that (Zone In) is driven by the development community," Leah F. Evans said. "We're at the table just like all of the other citizens are at the table, just like all the other interested parties. So there isn't a slant toward one or the other. That's why this process has been so elongated. Again, if you left it up, I think, to many developers, this could have been a much quicker execution." >>

The strategies for challenging segregation are well-understood. What we need is a movement demanding these strategies are implemented.

We recently had the privilege of touring with Homeport, who creates strong communities by developing quality, affordable homes on a foundation of dignity, security, and opportunity. We learned about the many ways Homeport supports their residents while touring underserved historic neighborhoods they have brought back to life. One notable project we observed is an apartment community conveniently visible from our InfraSource Headquarters at Easton.
