Benham Neighborhood Initiative Update Meeting August 8 The Greater Elkhart Chamber of Commerce, The University of Notre Dame School of Architecture, in partnership with the City of Elkhart invites the public to come back together to discuss key recommendations and findings for Elkhart’s Benham Neighborhood at a public session on Thursday, August 8th at 6:30 pm at The Tolson Center for Community Excellence.   The meeting will have a presentation, opportunity for questions and a panel. A copy of the findings, a Restoration, Regeneration & Reconnection of the Benham Neighborhood is available to view prior to August 8th directly at the Greater Elkhart Chamber of Commerce website at https://lnkd.in/dWXrzKHh "A year ago, we began the process of identifying future development opportunities that would strengthen the community and economic foundations of the Benham Neighborhood while protecting the integrity, culture, and people that have given life to this area of Elkhart," said Levon Johnson, President/CEO of the Greater Elkhart Chamber of Commerce. "With community input and guidance, we will focus on supporting a heightened quality of life and place through new housing and housing rehabilitation, and by reconnecting the Benham Neighborhood from Main Street to Oakland Avenue to restore a more walkable and undivided neighborhood.   This report is the beginning of a longer process. The key findings and recommendations provide the foundations for a comprehensive and cohesive implementation plan."

Congratulations to Boling Vision Center for receiving a Business of the Month Award from the Greater Elkhart Chamber Business Recognition Council! Boling Vision was established in 1960, and in 1986, Dr. Richard C. Boling II joined his father in the family practice. His daughters, Hayley Boling, CEO and Dr. Whitney Boling, joined the team making the practice a third-generation family business. The Center now has ten doctors and over 100 employees compassionately serving the families of Michiana with a state-of-the-art, personalized eye care experience. Their services include Medical/routine/pediatric eye care, LASIK/Refractive Surgery, Cataract Care, Medical Retina, Optical, Dry Eye Treatment, and Ocular Disease Management. Boling Vision Center makes a conscious effort to give back to their community by being involved in local charities, events, and initiatives. In an effort to take their commitment to serve the community outside the office, Boling Vision Center developed Kindness to Prevent Blindness (K2PB), a community impact program for eye care services for school children. Since beginning more than a decade ago, K2PB has evolved into several outreach efforts, the most recent being the K2PB Mobile Unit. Since the launch in 2018, they have provided free vision screenings to more than 4000 students and 1000+ pairs of free glasses.

Boom!   We are officially half way through 2024. It seems like we were just celebrating the new year and BOOM here we are on July 1. The great news is we still have another six months to make 2024 the type of year we want it to be. If you’ve had a great first two quarters, aim to make the next two quarters excellent. If you’ve had a mediocre first six months, aim to make the next six excellent. If the first half of the year was less than you hoped/planned for, aim to make the second half excellent. The beauty about chasing excellence is that it can be achieved no matter where you are starting. Let’s all make the pursuit of excellence our daily goal. When we all do that it is a great thing for Greater Elkhart. Have a positive, productive, and impactful week.
