300th WATCHMAN | Monday was a big day for our care team at Reid Heart Center as we completed our 300th WATCHMAN procedure. It was also the 200th procedure for electrophysiologist Dr. Mark Landers. The WATCHMAN procedure is an alternative treatment to blood-thinning medications to prevent a stroke. It is a small, flexible implant about the size of a quarter. The implant is placed into your heart during a minimally invasive procedure and never needs to be replaced. More than 150,000 patients have received WATCHMAN, with a 98.8% procedural success rate. Our care team is growing in Seven Lakes as we welcome Lisa Adams, DNP, FNP-C. She brings many years of experience to Moore County and will join the practice of Tilak Pokharel, M.D. and Jolena Allred, DNP, FNP-C. Another thank you to everyone who trusted us for their medical needs at the U.S. Open Championship at Pinehurst Resort. We also want to shine the spotlight on the hard work of our medical volunteers. Their commitment and expertise over six days ensured the well-being of the thousands of attendees. Throughout the championship, these volunteers provided care to about 2,500 people.

WHAT A WEEK! It's always a beautiful day in Pinehurst, especially during a U.S. Open Championship at Pinehurst Resort. Between Monday's first shots and Bryson DeChambeau taking home the title Sunday night, we treated about 2,500 people at three medical tents on the course. From overheating and dehydration to blisters and sunburns, we saw it all and we are thankful to everyone who put their trust in our volunteers.

We are extending hours at our Convenient Care clinic in Pinehurst and have many different care options to keep our community healthy during this special week.

NEWS: FirstHealth has expanded knee replacement surgery options for its patients through the introduction of a robotics-assisted surgical system at Moore Regional Hospital – Hoke. David Casey, M.D., an HSS fellowship-trained hip and knee replacement surgeon with Pinehurst Surgical Clinic and FirstHealth Orthopaedics, said the new option is an exciting one for patients.

EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT | Meet Debbie Iddings, the supervisor of lab registration at our FirstHealth Cancer Center. Debbie joined our cancer care team more than four years ago after moving to the area from upstate New York where she worked for nearly 16 years as a financial coordinator for an orthodontics office. While she initially anticipated continuing her path in dental care upon her move to the area, destiny intervened when she encountered an opportunity to work in oncology. Moved by the loss of her dear cousin to breast cancer, Debbie embraced the chance to make a difference in oncology. "Witnessing the compassionate care my cousin received during her battle inspired me to dedicate myself to supporting patients and families facing similar challenges," she shared. "Every day, my goal is to bring a ray of light into someone's journey." Outside of work, Debbie finds joy in gardening, tackling home improvement projects and indulging her passion for golf—a shared interest with her husband, which drew them to the area. Family plays a central role in her life, with her mother, son, sister and brother-in-law all relocating from New York to North Carolina. Debbie and her husband eagerly anticipate the arrival of their first grandchild later this year.
