I recently caught up with Cyril Philip, VP of Digital Ventures at Bon Secours Mercy Health, in the midst of a series of meetings with BSMH leaders across the country. It was really interesting to hear where their team is focused, as well as gaps they're seeing in the market. The point about a lack of AI scribing solutions focused on nursing workflows was particularly surprising. Curious if others are seeing a similar gap? --- 🟩 Q: What are some of the tech-related priorities coming out of these conversations? 𝗖𝘆𝗿𝗶𝗹: So far we’ve identified six areas that our leadership have articulated to us, a lot of which are interrelated: 1. Optimizing patient care: Specifically helping to close care gaps, supporting med reconciliation, and really anything that helps to minimize repetitive work for our clinicians.     2. Patient access: Essentially, helping patients navigate the steps required to receive care, such as knowing what specialty to reach out to, simplifying the pre-registration process, and improving follow-up management.     3. Patient-provider communication: Examples here include customized treatment plans for patients and giving them the tools they need to understand their care journey.     4. Patient education: Improving access to education so that patients understand what they're coming in for and what it entails, including follow-up.     5. Clinician engagement: We have a pilot with an ambient dictation solution which is showing strong results in the ambulatory setting by reducing the documentation burden on our clinicians. There is also interest in solutions for the acute care setting as well.        I would say that's one of the gaps that we're seeing in the market, specifically focusing on ambient dictation for nurse workflows. As part of our work, we've gone to some of the leading players in the ambient dictation space and talked about their capabilities in nurse dictation. There's a couple that are willing to co-develop or build a solution alongside us, but we have yet to see an out-of-the-box solution that's currently available.     6. Improving administrative efficiency: This includes anything that helps us understand and address key cost drivers of the business that are affecting hospital profitability. For example, solutions that help us reduce supply chain costs. The last thing I'll mention is the generative AI angle. Within all six of those areas, generative AI solutions rise to the top when we talk to the market leaders about what they want to see. 🟩 Q: Outside of AI scribes, are there any AI solutions or use cases you're looking at next? 𝗖𝘆𝗿𝗶𝗹: Leveraging generative AI to streamline prior authorizations is one. If you look at areas like infusions and wound care, traditional RCM services are costly and inefficient. You have to parse through a lot of data to get the justification you need for any prior auth, which makes it a good use case for generative AI.
