CWA represents more than 90 regulated water companies that deliver clean and safe water to over 6 million Californians.

About us

The California Water Association (CWA) represents regulated water utilities that are invested in California water and the future of our state. There are over 90 regulated water utilities across California serving more than 6 million customers. Our members are water professionals who live and work in the communities they serve. They’re dedicated to building water infrastructure, supporting the sustainability of our natural resources, and delivering clean and reliable drinking water to customers and communities across California. CWA member companies are regulated by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), an independent state agency responsible for establishing utility rates and guidelines for service. The CPUC shares responsibility for regulating drinking water quality with the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB). CWA works with members to inform regulation that impacts our members and the customers they serve, while sharing our expertise with the CPUC, SWRCB, and other policy makers.

  • July is Pet Hydration Month!  This month, join the California Water Association in emphasizing the importance of keeping our furry friends well-hydrated, especially during the hot summer days. Proper hydration is crucial for your pet’s health, ensuring they stay happy, active, and safe. Tips for Keeping Your Pets Hydrated: -Fresh Water Daily: Make sure your pets have access to fresh, clean water at all times. Change their water at least once a day to keep it clean and inviting. -Multiple Water Stations: Set up several drinking stations around your home and shade areas outside to encourage your pets to drink regularly. -Consider Wet Food Options: Incorporate wet food into their diet, as it naturally contains more moisture than dry food. -Monitor Water Intake: Keep an eye on how much your pet drinks daily. Increased thirst can sometimes indicate health issues. -Portable Water: Always carry a portable water bottle or bowl when you’re out and about with your pets to ensure they stay hydrated during walks or trips. Hydration is as vital to pets as it is to humans. Let's ensure our pets have the clean, fresh water they need to thrive. #PetHydrationMonth

  • Wrap Up Plastic Free July Strong! This July, the California Water Association encourages you to reduce your plastic footprint, especially in water-related products. Plastic waste significantly impacts our waterways and marine life. Embrace sustainable practices to help preserve our precious aquatic environments. Simple Tips to Reduce Plastic Use: -Choose Reusable Water Bottles: Opt for durable glass or stainless steel bottles instead of single-use plastics, like plastic cups. -Reuse and Repurpose: Turn old glass jars and containers into storage solutions or decorative items, reducing the need for new plastics. -Opt for Metal or Bamboo Straws: These reusable alternatives help reduce plastic waste. -Invest in Eco-friendly Water Filters: Use sustainable filters to decrease the need for disposable plastic cartridges. -Support Plastic-Free Products: Select items with minimal or no plastic packaging, especially for beach and water-related activities. -Recycle Properly: Enhance your recycling efforts to ensure plastics are processed correctly and kept out of our oceans. Together, we can make a meaningful impact! Each small change contributes to a healthier, more sustainable planet. #PlasticFreeJuly #ReducePlasticUse #WaterConservation

  • July is Smart Irrigation Month! Join CWA this July as we focus on how you can adopt smarter, more efficient watering practices at home. Embracing efficient irrigation is key to conserving water, saving money, and supporting a sustainable environment. Easy-to-Implement Smart Irrigation Tips for Your Home: Install Smart Controllers: These devices automatically adjust your watering schedule based on local weather and soil conditions, ensuring you only water when necessary. Check Sprinkler Alignment: Regularly inspect your sprinkler heads to make sure they’re aimed correctly and covering only your lawn or garden, not the sidewalk or street. Optimal Watering Times: Water early in the morning or late in the evening when temperatures are cooler to reduce evaporation rates. Switch to Drip Irrigation: Ideal for flower beds, vegetable gardens, and other landscaped areas, drip irrigation systems deliver water slowly and directly to the plant’s root zone, reducing waste and ensuring efficient use of resources. Remember, every drop counts! By upgrading to smart irrigation solutions, you’re not just nurturing your garden—you’re helping to preserve our planet's precious water resources. #SmartIrrigationMonth #WaterConservation #SustainableGardening
