This is a time to bring awareness to the unique challenges that racial and ethnic minorities in the United States face when it comes to mental illness. According to the FDA, fewer than one in every two African American adults got care for mental health in 2020. In 2018, Asian Americans were 60 percent less likely to receive mental health treatment than non-Hispanic whites. Obstacles for many include a lack of health insurance, less access to treatment, and stigma. Mental illness can affect men and women of all races and ethnicities. At Copa Health, we strive to provide equal access to healthcare for all people. We have a team of navigators who will help you the moment you walk through our doors. “Frequently, I have the pleasure of witnessing perseverance in both our treatment models and in those we serve. It is not only demonstrated as a mindset for those making their way through challenges or for those in their recovery journey but also evident as a skill during treatment. Thank you for your perseverance in turning obstacles into opportunities and dreams into realities.” –Dr. Shar Najafi-Piper, CEO, Copa Health.

At Copa Health, we use the eight dimensions of wellness from the SAMHSA - Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration- and integrated psychiatric recovery principles to ensure the best outcomes. Starr Williams, Program Coordinator at the West Village, explains how art therapy is a big part of what we do at Copa. She says art is a process, just like life, and we have to take it one step at a time. Well said, Starr! #copastrong #morethanmentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #youmatter #copacommunity #copacares

"With the temperatures climbing quickly, I urge everyone to prioritize their health and safety. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, take regular breaks in shaded areas if working outdoors, and dress appropriately for the weather. As we maintain our commitment to delivering world-class service to vulnerable individuals, let’s also ensure that we safeguard those under our care to the best of our ability." --Dr. Shar Najafi-Piper, CEO Copa Health.
