I was in Penang today to visit and launch the Cohu Semiconductor Test Design Center in Bayan Lepas, following Cohu company, LTX Credence's investment commitment of over RM 71mil in this venture. This venture is projected to generate RM 1.6bil in indirect economic value over the next five years, significantly boosting the local economy. Malaysia commands an impressive 7% share of the global semiconductor market, underscoring its significant influence and leadership, particularly in semiconductor assembly, testing, and packaging (ATP). This achievement is testament to our nation’s established position within the industry. I was also pleased to note that 95% of Cohu Malaysia's workforce is Malaysian. I reiterated in my speech that the Ministry of Digital is clear in its mission to strengthen the nation’s digital landscape, focusing on three critical areas such as enhancing digital infrastructure; bolstering cybersecurity, and developing a robust talent pipeline — solidifying our commitment to industry and ecosystem partners. Today is World Environment Day, raising awareness and encouraging action for the protection of the environment. At Cohu, Inc., we support and partner with our employees participating in community service. With the support of the local government of Los Banos, our Laguna employees organized a tree-planting activity with the Boy Scouts of the Philippines. The activity supported reforestation with 85 tree saplings being planted providing a greener landscape for the environment, minimizing the levels of air pollution and diminishing the unfavorable effects of climate change, as well as enhancing the environmental conservation knowledge for Cohu employees.
