Home is more than four walls and a roof 🏡 It is a place where we should feel safe and loved 🧡 Everyone deserves a home — and that includes pets in shelters 😸🐶 Shelter and rescue workers like you are working hard to find homes for every pet, but the reality is that today, not every dog and cat gets to experience the love and comfort of home. 💔 All we need is just 6% more people to choose to adopt versus purchase their pets to close the national lifesaving gap and #SaveThemAll! 🧡 Help us #BringLoveHome for pets across our nation - share and get your community involved in lifesaving! 🧡🐾 Visit bestfriends.org/home to learn more.

During the month of June, animal shelters and rescues across the country have been pushing themselves to try open adoption practices and host adoption and foster events as part of the Best Friends Network 🧡 Bring Love Home Challenge 🧡 Cincinnati Animal Care is one of those organizations, so check out their fun video, which captures the spirit of the Bring Love Home Challenge by engaging their community in an unexpected, silly way to encourage people to adopt dogs for a low adoption fee 🐶 The Bring Love Home Challenge ends this Sunday, and we're so proud of every organization that has participated. We can't wait to see the results they all worked so hard for 🐾 😻 https://lnkd.in/efF2x4q5

Ever wondered about "capacity for care" in animal shelters? It's all about an organization's ability to house and care for pets properly with the resources available. Animal shelters can prioritize capacity for care by: 🐶 Reuniting lost pets with their families 😸 Helping families with resources needed to keep their pets 🐶 Placing pets in foster homes 😸 Ensuring quick and positive outcomes for pets But even shelters with the most consistent positive outcome programming can find themselves over capacity. Given the challenges of overcrowding and limited resources in many shelters, having a solid "At Capacity Action Plan" is essential. Check out our strategies for managing capacity challenges — download the free checklist: https://lnkd.in/gPrpv6a6 Interested in interested in learning more about the world of animal services? Are your staff and volunteers on board with open adoptions? Make sure the first adoption philosophy they learn about is yours by including guidance about open adoptions in your staff and volunteer onboarding! Learn more from Brian Rivera from Tree House Humane Society, an all-cat shelter in Chicago, about how they do this.

"The biggest game changer in expanding our capacity for care was creating a foster program that exponentially increased our ability to care for dogs and cats in our community." Read more in this new blog from Tawny Hammond, MIS, Director of No Kill Advancement at Best Friends Animal Society.
