The Faro Mine was once one of the world’s largest open pit lead-zinc mines. Today, it’s the site of a major remediation program tasked with a critical mission: to deliver environmental remediation solutions that safeguard the environment, maximize local socioeconomic benefits and return the mine site to an acceptable state of use that reflects pre-mine land use wherever possible. Our teams are providing engineering services for this landmark program on behalf of the Government of Canada. And digital tools play a key role in our work. Today’s People Spotlight features Eirini Kolyvaki, a senior engineer from our Water business in Scotland.    Eirini was a research assistant in Greece for two years before she decided to pursue a new career path. Seeking to broaden her horizons, she moved to the United Kingdom and entered the construction industry, working in the building sector before joining AECOM. During her nine years with us, she has played a key role in Scottish Water’s Caledonia Water Alliance. It’s given her the opportunity to contribute to major projects like Bertha Park, which will supply clean water to 3,000 new homes and businesses in Perth, Scotland.     “For every project I have worked on, there has always been a focus on respecting and engaging with communities by minimizing disturbance, investing in local suppliers and reducing carbon emissions,” she writes. “On the Bertha Park project, we incorporated sustainable materials into the design to help create a positive impact on local communities and the environment.”    Read more about her work: https://lnkd.in/es8eh643   #AECOM #AECOMVoices

Putting empowerment into action, yesterday women across the UAE came together to discuss gender equity at AECOM Middle East.   After the success of the Women in CI Forum, held for the past two years, this year the forum developed, bringing all sectors of our business together.   With our senior leaders and allies in the room, we discussed the advancement of gender equity across the region, looked ahead at what is to come and engaged in an open dialogue with our Chief Executive, Hamed Zaghw about the challenges women face.   We were honored to be joined by Suparna Mathur, who presented on personal impact manifestos. She emphasized the crucial role of male allyship, sponsorship and why it is important for women to amplify and boost each other in the workplace.   Thank you to everyone who participated in the discussions, and to the allies who listened with intent. Today’s People Spotlight features Gabrielle Appiah, a stakeholder engagement expert from our Environment, Water and Energy business in the United Kingdom.    At 16, Gabrielle joined the London Legacy Development Corporation’s Legacy Youth Panel, where she reviewed development plans and designs for Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, the venue for the 2012 Summer Olympics and Paralympics. Today’s People Spotlight features Jamie Rivera, PE, PMP, an associate vice president and project manager from our Water business line in the U.S. East region.    Just three months after joining AECOM, Jamie embarked on a project that would shape the trajectory of her career: supporting a typhoon-stricken community’s recovery in Guam. 20 years later, and she’s made her mark in disaster recovery as she manages our FEMA Public Assistance contracts and facilitates recovery efforts across the U.S. One of her favorite projects to date has been supporting the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) after the 2013 Colorado floods, which impacted Rocky Mountain National Park and several mountainous corridors.
