Performance gaps are rather easy to spot out, they present themselves in form of low metrics, dissatisfied customers, re-works, defects, and most forms of waste as identified in Six Sigma. However, what is not easy to pinpoint, is the true reasons/causes behind these gaps. I believe that a proactive step to resolving these gaps is to build with the end in mind I.e cater for these inconsistencies already from planning or implementation. I advocate for the scheduling of focus sessions aimed at the identification and analyses of possible pitfalls that might occur and designing controls at crucial stages of the process to prevent/ reduce occurrence. This way, we creat buffers and ensure the team never hits ground zero.
