It’s a great time for gamers, as there are so many highly-anticipated games heading to consoles in the next few years. But it’s Playstion owners who arguably have the most to look forward to, as they wait for the titles that let them explore new worlds, hunt monsters, fight the bad guys, and save the day.

We’ve cooked up a handy guide to the best upcoming PlayStation exclusives, so enough preamble: let’s ogle some future releases!

Little Devil Inside

Let’s start with one title which looks truly delightful. Little Devil Inside puts players in the role of Billy, a swordsman who hunts monsters for a living. It sounds like a grand adventure, but the game also has a ‘real-world’ approach to the supernatural. The brilliant first trailer shows Billy traversing murky swamps, treacherous mountains, and dark seabeds to find fantastic beasts, while his employer lives a comfortable life and has a warm bed to sleep in every night. The unique art style gives Little Devil Inside a sense of flair and a playful personality.

Players aren’t just stuck in the wilderness fighting creatures all the time; they’ll be able to return home to prepare for each new adventure. It’ll be vital to learn about the region and what you’ll encounter along the way, otherwise, these missions will be a little harder to complete. Little Devil Inside deserves your time when it arrives in 2022.

Forspoken

Forspoken is a completely original story from Luminous Productions and Square Enix which transports a young woman, Frey Holland, from New York to the mythical world of Althia. When Frey arrives in this strange new land she discovers she has elemental abilities and can use magic to fight off dragons, monsters, and savage warriors. Frey isn’t alone in her journey, because when she arrives in Althia she discovers a magical bracelet called Cuff who talks to her and acts as her guide. It’s like a Smart Watch, but with more gold and magic.

Frey’s attempts to get back to Earth will pit her against a ruthless dictator called Tanta Sila, who once fought to keep Althia safe, before falling to a darker path. The story was co-developed by Gary Whitta (of Rogue One fame) so it’ll be interesting to see what else the Forspoken plot explores when it arrives in Spring 2022.

Horizon Forbidden West

After the huge success of 2017’s Horizon Zero Dawn, players were understandably eager to see more from Aloy’s adventures in the post-apocalyptic world dominated by vicious machines. Her mission this time around is to find the source of a bizarre infection which kills anything it touches, causing chaos through the unpredictable landscape. This new mystery will build on the main plot of the original game, while introducing some incredible locations for Aloy to (literally) dive into when the game arrives in February 2022.

The Horizon Forbidden West map is much bigger than before, and it will also give players the chance to explore vast oceans and rivers. Aloy’s adventure will also take her through other rich landscapes like snowy mountains and ruined cities, so it’ll keep things fresh and exciting. There’s also an array of new gadgets to give players the edge over the machines, like the Shieldwing. It’s an energy parachute that can be used to leap from great heights, or it can be used to surprise Aloy’s enemies from above.

God of War: Ragnarok

Ready to get back in the fight, boy? (Please read that in Kratos’ gravelly voice.) God of War: Ragnarok is arguably one of the most anticipated games heading to PlayStation, largely because the first game delivers a unique and extraordinary experience. Sure, there’s a riveting adventure and the combat is flawless, but the emotional story about a father bonding with his son really got its hooks into players. That journey is only going to get deeper in Ragnarok.

It’s set three years after the previous game and picks up with Kratos and Atreus in ancient Norway. Ragnarok is on its way, which will mean the end of the world and the deaths of all the Norse gods, so the godly duo will try and prevent it from happening. But it might not be so easy when they’re also fighting Thor, who wants revenge for the death of his sons. Kratos’ Chain Blades vs. Thor’s hammer, Mjolnir. Place your bets! God of War: Ragnarok is going to be an unmissable 2022 release.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

Insomniac Games really surprised players with 2018’s Marvel’s Spider-Man, as it turns New York into Peter Parker’s playground alongside an emotionally compelling story featuring some of the Web-Slinger’s most famous villains. The adventure continued in 2020’s Miles Morales, which widened the universe and put Miles’ story in the spotlight — remember, anyone can wear the mask (ideally if they have superpowers, though). But the story will continue in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, as Miles and Peter work together to keep New York safe.

There’s not much known about the plot so far, but the first teaser trailer revealed that Venom is one of the main villains in the sequel after being teased in the previous games. He’s got a creepy design, and he’s voiced by the legendary Tony Todd. The trailer is also narrated by a mysterious, unknown villain who talks about “the glory of the hunt.” So it seems like Sergei Kravinoff, A.K.A. Kraven the Hunter, will also take aim at the Spider-Men when the sequel (eventually) arrives in 2023.
