Sales of the Xbox 360 are up an impressive 34 per cent on a year-to-date basis in the US, with September being the console's strongest month of 2010, NPD Group has announced.

The NPD data - the first not to include precise unit-by-unit sales – shows that all other consoles are down compared to September 2009. However, PlayStation 3 and PSP are up on an average sales per week basis compared to August.

The release of Halo: Reach seems to be a key factor behind the Xbox 360's growth. It was the best selling game of the month, shifting 3.3 million copies, not including those bundled with consoles.
