WRC developer Milestone has announced World Rally Championship 4, the latest version of its long-running racing series.

It'll arrive on PC, PlayStation 3, Vita and Xbox 360 this October. There's no mention of a next-gen version, or of a release on Wii U.

New from previous editions will be a revamped career mode, plus enhanced lighting and weather.

"This brand new chapter, different from the previous reboot of the series, will include many of the improvements requested by the community," Milestone spokesperson Luisa Bixio said.

"A lot of the features that we've seen on the official Facebook page or received by mail have been incorporated. We're convinced that WRC 4 represents a step forward for the series and will be appreciated by players."

We'd love to show you some screenshots or a trailer, but there's none - yet - to be found. Here's a look at 2012's WRC3, which Eurogamer's Martin Robinson proclaimed to be "competent and faithful but lacking the kind of thought and polish that could make it really worthwhile".
