Ubisoft has snapped up the intellectual property rights to the Tom Clancy name for use in games and related products - including books and movies.

The publisher already coughs up money for the right to write Tom Clancy on the boxes of games like Splinter Cell, Ghost Recon and Rainbow Six. Additional payments will now be made over the next two years.

Apparently the "royalty savings" generated will have an "average positive impact" on "operating profit" of at least EUR 5 million per year. In other words, it'll work out cheaper in the long run.

And there will probably be more games with the words Tom Clancy on the box in the shops.
